Need Help with Freelander TD4 HSE SW 2004

Gents I changed the vacuum pipe, which indeed did have a split in it about 1cm long. Still get black smoke at high revs. what should I try next?

In your pic the pipe was circled in red. the pipe that had a hole in came from like a tee off which I circled in GREEN and highlighted and kind of shown the direction it took under the other pipes.
There was a second pipe coming sat right next to the other end of the pipe that I changed they sort of plug in separate holes beside one and other, I circled and highlighted this in YELLOW. hope this makes sense. o_O

It probably would if I could see the highlighted picture you're talking about. Sounds like the one going to the EGR solenoid.

Yeah. That one goes to the EGR solenoid. The one you highlighted in yellow is the one that comes from the solenoid to the EGR valve. If you look where you've highlighted in green, but underneath on the very back of the vac tank (the black, bean tin sized thing, remember?), you'll find a really long one that probably goes under the engine cover (removed in the picture) that comes out again on the left side of the engine, then goes down the back of the engine to the turbo solenoid. If this one has splits or holes your turbo will not be working properly. It's worth checking that one if you haven't already.
 
just a quick question. is the pipe in question the same thickness as the one I changed already?

This is the one that I found a split in so far, I realise now its not from the Vac tank.

Ok guys I've found the very long Vac hose which comes from the very back of the vac tank, as you state it runs up under the engine cover over to the left hand side of the engine and down towards as you say the engine solenoid, I cant seem to get my hands or fingers on the end that connects to the solenoid or even see where the solenoid is how much of the engine bay will I have to remove in order to get to the end of the hose in order to connect the new one when it arrives?
It feels pretty worn out in places, or at least the parts I can touch does feel like there may be a hole or two..
in short, how to I get to the awkward end?

You can get to the boost control valve from the side, via the RH inner wing cutout for the track rod. ;)
