That one will .. ;)

Actually we very nearly got a Subaru Outback when we got our Discovery. I
think it was only the extra seats and such a good buy that swayed us for the
Disco .. though at the time we still has an S3 as well, though that's gone
now :(

The good old days, lots of posts, informed debate and friendly banter, we had
regular events where we all got together to go offroading and the Anorak offroad
club was born, we used to regularly get 20 or so members of this group appear at
events, at Thamesmead once we had over 30 readers if uk.rec.cars.4x4 turn up.

Sadly all the trolls and spammers killed all that and the regulars moved on and
this group died a slow painful death, the Anoraks are still going, we've even
had a fair bit of publicity over the last year or so, but I think I'm the only
one who looks at this group from time to time.

Sad as I for one have made a lot of friends via this group.

I've only ever met someone from newsgroups I frequent on a couple of
occasions. The first time the chap was a complete obsessive buffoon, the
second time it was a party and pretty damn good .. ;)

It wasn't this, or any other 4x4 newsgroup, I hasten to add.

I'd be happy to attend a 4x4 event, dependant upon dates and venue,
obviously.

Thats why the club was called the Anoraks, tongue in cheek, there where one or
two anoraks but most were quite normal ;-)

Had a look on your site, and you appear to have a regular 4x4 event at
Slindon pit every month, and one in a few weeks on 19th december. Where is
it? I couldn't find a map on the site and on Autoroute there are two
Slindons .. ;) I know it's a 4x4 site, but would non road-registered
vehicles and Trials motorbikes be allowed on site?

If it's the Slindon near Stoke it's within reach of us (Doncaster) as we
sometimes go to Stoke for other reasons.

Hi Geoff,

I still monitor this NG but very rarely post to it - come to think of it
that is about the same frequency that I actually make it off-road these
days!

That's what happens when people start to spam newsgroups. The real
posters drift away.

Having already had this argument on this NG and having found no support
from the other posters whatsoever for your comments I am surprised that you
still bother.
Perhaps Geoff ( a true NG contributor ) is right and you are a troll. And
as such of no value to the group and part of what has driven the worthwhile
contributors away. At least my comments are ( normally ) on topic and
constructive, often helping willingly of my time and knowledge of 4x4.
As I have siad to you before I find your comments of little value or
interest!

The fact that you can find a couple of dimwits who want spam doesn't
make it on-topic.

Though I am loathed to prolong any converstaion with you I must take
exception to your comments:
I did not 'find' anyone - they all posted of their own free will.
Every post I have made edvertising any products ( spam in your eyes only )
are all directly on topic as they are for products that have a direct
application to 4x4 vehicles, which is after all why I sell them!!
I am not convinced that you should refer to people as dimwits - just
because you don't agree with them!

As usual your comments are of little value to the group now slouch back off
into your troll-cave and leave the group to have some positive expression.

Indeed and I'm still here too. I'd just like to say again that I don't
mind the odd advert that could be considered on-topic to this group, i.e.
the sort of stuff David sells.

Before I get accused of being a stooge may I just say that I've never bought
anything from David nor have I ever met him.

And there we have it, a nice fun place to be uk.rec.cars.4x4 full of spammers
and trolls and people bickering, all we need now if for that sir.tony idiot to
reappear (he was the highest poster to this group for a while) and we have the
complete set.

It's hardly surprising this group is dead, would the last one out turn off the

Since you appear to be hard of thinking, I quote the charter for this
newsgroup:

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Charter of Uk.Rec.Cars.4x4

(Not Moderated)

uk.rec.cars.4x4 is for the discussion of 4 wheel drive and off-road
vehicles. Topics of discussion include:

The relative merits of particular vehicles.
Help were possible with 4x4 related problems.
Areas of interest to visit.
Recomendations of suppliers.

There are many groups catering for sales and wants so advertising must
be kept to forthcoming events.

Binaries are not permitted on this newsgroup, but pointers to WEB sites
are welcomed.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Is there any part of that that you don't understand? It makes it clear
that the commercial advertising that you indulge in is not wanted, so
would you kindly desist?

I don't give a flying **** what *you* want. The advertising is off-topic
here. If you want to receive advertising from the spammer, subscribe to
his mailing list.
