Disc Brakes for my Series 3.

After a lot of thinking and then researching I manage to source a decent and reputable source for the disc brakes I need for the conversion I want. Forbyn Bros (California) have them!

This setup is compatible with defender calipers, rotors and pads so no faffing about. To me it's worth the investment. I'll also have to change to a dual circuit braking line system which is easy.

My other and only alternative was to buy drums from LOF because their drums are perfectly true and not like others that are available on the market.

This is important to me as my LR series is my daily vehicle compared to someone who will use theirs occasionally. In regards to the gearbox, nothing much has changed. It needs rebuilding. It's a job I must do myself otherwise I'll never be happy with it.

The main changes will be disc brakes all round, parabolic leaf springs, and that is it. MAER in Poland now supply coil sprung series chassis's that allow for power steering. Tempting but axles from a Discovery 1, Range Rover or Defender would be needed so that the coil springs have their placement. New shocks and leaf springs would make a difference and keep the series a series by nature and in the flesh.
 
After months of deliberation I decided enough was enough!

I tried a heat gun and that worked but the process was slow and painful (because I burnt my fingers!).

So I got paint stripper! The glue used to stick interior panels and cushion must have been made to hold elephants down for good. I did try petrol, nail polish remover and thinner. None worked.

Remaining is the cabin area. I'm not looking forward to that because the paint stripper is no joke!! I had some on my hand and it burns like the devil's breath. I must protect my eyes well.

The series 3 paint work believe it or not is worse than the 2A's.

I'll have to remove the panels that need removing because some have been badly placed and riveted and I do believe that method was incorrect.

It's ex-army. That itself has something insane about it so I must have acceptance to live with it.
 
I fitted a front disk conversion last year from Design Development UK. I had to fit 30mm wheel spacers to let my OE Defender wheels clear the calipers. My winter project will be to source a set of Wolf steels ( to clear calipers) as the spacers made my steering noticeably heavier. I've also bought a remote servo as disk brakes don't have any self servo effect.

I didn't want that method. But if it works for you all good. I use my series daily in Kenya so wanted a system that is robust. Design Development could have made one like what Forbyn Bros offer which would have addressed the issues you mention. I also wanted the option of keeping the series wheels or wolf if I wanted. That was not possible.
