I have got the old meter with the big numbers, tried to get a smart meter but couldnt get a signal

Dunno how they work. thought they read the meter down the leccy cables or summit. Or stuck another one in beside it.
you can tell I'm a total ignoramus about this stuff.
Originally it did communicate with the lickle box but that was back when with Scottish leccy.
TBH at the end of the day, we have to use what we have to use and we have to pay what we have to pay. We have reduced consumption as much as we can and that's it really.
Just have to grit our teeth and bear it.
Or go and live in the library!!

I also had a Scott Pwr smart meter (it's in the kitchen drawer) but I asked Octopus for a new one and they came and swapped it plus swapped gas and lecci meters for new ones.
The new meter is more precise, and I don't have to supply readings,
Gas is very expensive recently
I have electric fire in solar for most of day which helps but still more than double last years bills
I'd love to stick a wood burner in cause I have a chimney but I'm in a bungalow surrounded by houses so I'd probably smoke them out,

Tempted to say "tough" "get one yourselves" on the wood burner. If you have a chimney it isn't for ornament. Ours in Frogland burns ridiculously efficiently so there is very little smoke at all. Just a faint pleasant smell!
Sadly we don't have one here nor a chimney. One neighbour has one but you wouldn't know it, no smell at all.
Interesting about Octopus.
Good for you with the solar. We are just happy our house is so well insulated, being wood frame etc.

..we did the shopping, it was raining.
Back home & in the dry.
It seems I have been walking on my trouser cuffs and they have wicked up all the puddles of rain. Oops!
Penalty of being a short-ar$e I suppose.

As long as your burner is installed properly and HEPA compliant your neighbours would only know you have one as you first fire it up. Once its burning at the correct temp there is virtually no smoke visible out of the chimney.
Dont know how many lights you leave on but we could make that last 2 days this time of year
