Have you checked the condition of the stub axle? I helped a mate yesterday who was changing brake discs and we found one of the stub axles had worn a slight step in it and the bearings were shot. It also looked like the bearings hadn't been properly packed with grease had had over heated.

It is important that the bearings are well packed with grease and that you also pack the centre of the hub. Hope that helps ya.

A trip planned wow , Bloody hell you lot have been busy lol ..

got back from a blinding laning trip in Croatia and Montenegro . wished you were all there with us , As beth says you were all there in spirit with us round every hair pin and over ever rock ,, Bloody scary at times lol ..
I even managed to make a mess of ther Gaylander Beth recons i did it on purpose lol , Atyre wheel a door and cracked the oil pan lol . i say it wasnt up to the job lol .. but the peeps at landrover were laughing hahahaha , had a blast ,, which has made us want to tour europe and russia in ours ,, Few of the guys there did the camel trophy and i learnt alot from them even Had Beth spotting for me loads to tell next time we see you all ,,,

OK. Kai nd I havehad a somehwhat strange day. Started out by removing his front n/s wheel and taking a wire brush to the inside. Having cleared about 3mm of rust from the inside put that to one side and take a look at the chassis from the front back on the n/s. Looks good with only the outrigger at the rear being dodgy. Decided to remove the front leaf spring since they will need attention no matter what we do with the chassis. Took an hour or so but battled against rusted nuts.

Now does anyone know exactly what we have to do to recon leaf springs?

bin it and get a new one! i have no idea mate not alot to it is there?

Paint them or bin them as above there aint much to em mate cant really re-con them they either work or not if they dnt then its time for new ones. thats my view anyway but i have not had much dealings with them only changing them on various series, but thats been just straight replacements whooo knooooows

As above mate if in doubt bin them and buy new. Pay close attention to the hangers on the chassis as they can and will twist off if rusted thru.

Er Wouldn't bin them just yet!

Ok are they completly rusted together as a solid lump?

If not you need to take the clamps off and mabe break the rust with a chisel to seperate them and lay them out in order. go get a couple of flap disks for your gringer and start getting them back to bare metal. one by one keeping them in order (this is the do you or dont you senario) Either paint them all individualy let them dry and re-assemble with hand fulls and i mean hand fulls of grease or just assemble them with hand fulls of grease and not bother to paint them somone argued that the paint will wear away etc but hey pros and cons to both. To paint or not to paint you need to decide wither way. I personally would. Once assembled I heared somwhere that people used to wrap them in grease oil soaked rags. You will be amazed how good series suspension can be when all done like this compared to most rusty solid lumps that are on the roads. Jai

Remember that you will not get genuine any more and therefore are getting cheapo metal and not decent stuff LR used from New. Parabolics seem to be a waste yes they work compared to knackared springs and give a fantastic ride but its £300 snots. There isn't many series motas about with good working suspension these days so yours will be superior to most if done well Jai

Remember that the springs are handed front to back and left to right. drivers side should sit slightly higher than passenger side when on level ground. Jai
