Interesting, is that the OS app?
As for lane names and being able to search/ filter things like ford's this would be a feature that would be flagged by the initial person mapping the route within the new app and then confirmed by subsequent users, much the same as when people flag up a mobile speed camera on google maps!
Yep OS map. You can share maps and post maps for others to use/view.

Done a ride this morning & recorded the route on the way back home.

On the app you can tap the elevation and will show on the map your position.

And todays view of byways which look unused so far this year

And insurance.

That’s why a lot of the farm land we used to race on stopped. Insurance companies would not allow any motorsport on stubble fields.

I know of 1 off road centre who had a bad accident with how I people drive
And 1 patch of land where there were 2 severe accidents on following weekends & caused a death of the experianced rally driver with his injuries caused by the roll.
I guess I was thinking of keeping it quite raw and people enter at own risk etc, not make it an official thing, but you're right, there's probably a heII of a lot of paperwork if something goes wrong.

I reckon if it was only owners using it then insurance would be fine, as soon as you start charging people it gets super complicated.
Also a lot of land has usage restrictions for certain activities and driving would be one of them as I think it would be viewed the same as a race track.

Interesting, so as long as everyone that wants to use it makes some kind of donation however small and became a joint owner, then it makes it simpler on the legal side? I suppose it's just owners checking on their property then, right?

I imagine you would need one busybody then trouble will come you're way.
Besides I very much doubt you will find enough interest to stump up £80k.

Does Wikiloc have any following in the UK? I have never through to use it for green lanes so need to have a closer look, but it is what I used for route planning etc in Morocco and when I did the Italian alps. It is recorded routes actually run by the user overlayed onto a map. It also has its draw backs similar to trailwise but has a different set of features and navigation capabilities.

example LINK for the route I took across the bottom of Morocco through the desert. but not sure if you can view it without a login?

I agree - you would need hundreds of people to make it affordable to an individual. Then, who would legally own it - your back to the legal merry-go-round.

I’m up for a replacement to trailwise however, which is what I currently use. It’s clunky as hell, poorly maintained, and agree about the phone signal issues. I think it needs to be something real-time and portable sat-nav/gps driven…
