Hi does anyone no where i can get a tutorial for taking off the head on my 200tdi, av got the problem with a broken glow plug, have try'd the suggestions on here apart from starting the engine i cant afford for it to go wrong, so im gonna take the head off and do it that way but never done it before and need a lil bit of guidance, thanks

Jamie, do you have the haynes book for the motor? I have been told that removing the head is not too complicated if you do it by numbers. Use a digital camera and take lots of photos so you can identify how everything goes back together. I have a haynes maintenance manual for the disco that is excellent and I also have a computer program that might provide the information you need, you would be welcome to a copy of the program but its been packed ready for the move... you could easily take some printouts though.

A conversation with Classic Kev, DB or Jai just to pinpoint any areas of special considerations might be of use.

If you come up- against something that seems just a little too complicated them I have found that members here are always only too willing to offer advice and useful info.

I am not just spouting off here. I've been lucky enough to have several members (jai, Kev, and Niel especially) show me how to carry out many routine tasks, and once you pitch in and start getting it done it is amazing how quickly you get results.

Do not, however, expect to do it in the same time that some of the guys on here state. For us who are new to the dark art of landy mechanics it is better to go slow and get it right than steam ahead and make a fatal mistake!

Anyhow, sorry for the long post and I hope this gives you a little more co9nfidence in your own abilities!

OH! I forgot one other incredibly valuable source of information... Kris300 tdi has forgotten more about discos than I will ever know!

Yeah, I can feck anything up.

If you could read you'd notice that I have had a similar bumper that also looked awful, and tried to help by pointing out how vulnerable something low and at the front can be.

You are helping how, exactly?

I made it

all constructive critisism welcome, as i am very keen to improve my fabricating skills

It is actually the tech manual in electronic format. Unfortunately all our disks are packed but talking to Kris might be worthwhile.

It covers the 300 tdi, V8 and T series engines and is the RAVE software.

ok thanks, i got head off today then ran out of light, hopefully will be back on tomorow

Fair play! any serious problems noticed?
no not really, that bracket that hold the manifold on was a pain in the arse but apart from that all looks good, 1 little score on 1 of the bores but nothing serious original honeing marks where still there and all looks in fairly good, still didnt get the tip of glow plug out its stuck tight il av another go in the morning.

I think we probably have enough bodies now, assuming everyone turns up who has said that they will. Still looking to obtain a trailer to move the disco though. AND if anyone wants a N reg Galaxy needing a replacement engine (also here) it's going for a song.

Cheers
