which diagnostic machine do you use for your range rover

right here we go not wanting to start a war here but would like to know the pros and cons of the different makes and costs and what one does that the other doesnt type thing
so here goes what is so different between nano and lynx systems
 
I have a Lynx, I picked it over the Nanocom primarily because it's cheaper and I'm not really going to use it much.

Lynx uses a laptop, Nanocom is a standalone portable device.

Nanocom has more features than the Lynx but the features that Lynx has is good enough for me anyway. Lynx coverage list

One thing that is better on the Lynx is that it will work on any P38. If you get a Nanocom for a diesel it won't connect to a petrol P38s engine ECU (but it will connect to non specific things such as BECM, HEVAC etc). I guess it isn't that important though unless your planning to be helping mates all the time. You can also buy more extra cars for the Lynx such as (D2,L322,Sport,Defender and more) where as the Nanocom only seems to cover P38,D2,Defender
 
About £300 for Lynx including VAT from Island 4x4.
Nanocom is ~£350 last I looked. Both are far too high for an 18 year old car in my opinion but there's no other choice as far as I'm aware.

It's a piece of software that runs on your computer but it talks to a piece of hardware over USB that then interfaces with the car.
 
I have a Lynx bought it a few week ago as I needed something when I was away and an outlet close to my work had one in stock east to use but prob not as good as nano but does engine hevac becm suspension gearbox etc so pretty complete used it on gems and thor so far and gives far more info on thor not sure if this is a restriction with gems or lynx the fact it uses a laptop is good and bad good for live data as you can see a lot bad as in it doesnt just fit in the glove box

Can the Lynx calibrate EAS? Hawkeye cannot. I have a Faultmate MSV2.

Yes, the calibration module is essentially testbook T4's so it expects you to have the calibration blocks to hand. For editing individual values it's worthwhile to have one of your cables (or similar) and EASUnlock.

It seems to cover pretty much everything I need. One thing it doesn't do is calibrate blend motors, but I'm not sure why you would need that anyway. I've replaced mine twice now and while replacing them I ran them to the end of the stop by accident and put them back in with the cogs not aligned and it didn't need calibrating; just faults clearing. RAVE seems to indicate that they will calibrate themselves if you just keep turning it on and off anyway but as I said mine didn't need it.

If its only £50 more then yes I'd go with the Nanocom, but the Lynx is good enough for me!

EDIT: I did contact them and they said they do have plans to add extra features that the Nanocom has but Lynx doesn't. Although I'm sceptical if that will ever happen.

Last time I priced up a Nanocom it came in more like £400 (by the time you've added delivery and duty) rather than the £350 people keep claiming so I went for the Lynx at £250 as I don't expect to make heavy use of it, since I always carry at least a netbook (and usually a laptop) wherever I go, the extra hassle of requiring a computer wasn't an issue.

I think the Nanocom is the better product for the average user especially as you can keep it in your glovebox. Lynx is a bit clunky but is good value if you usually have your laptop.

No its the nanocom not the faultmate which is currently 349 Euros plus VAT and delivery. But it does seem the Lynx has gone up since I bought mine.
