Thanks guys my funds cant afford a reconditioned unit not going to get a 2nd hand one either. So going to save up or send mine away get it reconditioned.

Extremely hacked off got everything else done and ready go back together. Just typical but will get there one way or another :D

Evening all, hope you are well and safe. I have fitted a new FIP and chains etc. I just want to double check a few things please before I put the new head on:

1. FIP timing gauge - I got the type that was posted on a old post. Does this look right?

2. New chains - again do they look right fitted them as the RAVE?

3. FIP - Bit concerned the sprocket goes on but the way the pump is on the slots on back come to timing pump there is no room for adjustment back towards engine?

4. Cylinder Head - I have turned it to fire on cylinder one, just want checked this is correct?

Photos attached, alot of this is obvious to alot of you but just want to check and make sure now before putting all back together.

Thank you.

Chain fitment is fine. But the pump should be almost central on the adjustment slot when timed up. Looks like you may have had the crank locking pin hooked on the CPS pip 20 degrees after TDC when you did the timing. It MUST be engaged in the hole in the flywheel so that engine is locked in both directions.

Thanks wammers. Can you advise what I need to do please?

Thanks

Make absolutely sure the locking pin is located properly in the hole in the flywheel, so engine cannot turn in either direction before setting the cam lift on the pump. With new chains lift should be set to 0.95mm with engine locked at TDC. Cam position gauge should be flush to head when fitting cam chain. Hold hex on cam when angle tightening cam sprocket bolt.

Thanks so to just absolutely sure being the thicko I am, the engine is currently locked it cannot be turned either way, however are you saying that it is locked 20 degrees out or do I take pump off and centralise it on the slots to time it correctly and have room for adjustment?

Sorry not a wind up first time done this so want make sure I am spot on.

You can loosely refit the front timing cover and crank pulley, there is a line on the cover that will line up with the pulley Mark at TDC then fit the locking pin.

No i said it looks like it is hooked on one of the CPS pips. With engine locked at TDC and pump set at 0.95mm lift on cam, pump should be around mid point of adjustment slot. Not hard over towards engine. So something is wrong. Only other thing it can be is the DTI and adaptor. Did you push DTI in to engage piston until it showed 2mm on clock. Then lock and zero it before moving pump to set lift? Also timing should not be done until the bottom chain tensioner is fitted and applying tension.

Presumably nothing moved when replacing the chains or pump? The pump Woodruff key is nicely in the slot?

@wammers, where would it be if he was 180 degrees out?

No the dti and adapter was just put in to see if this was right thing to use as the adapters there were 3 types that came in. Also looks like I put the pump on but not centralised it just rested it on the lugs. So will take it off and centralise it re-align it all then time it.
