Springs for 110. Your opinion needed.

Good Day I’m considering using Terrafirma’s light load springs on my 110. These would allow me to continue having the same 2 inch lift I currently have but with a less harsh ride. (I’m aware that these might not maintain the 2 inches due to the lower spring rate). However I’m concerned that...

Play in Rear Diff. Input Flange

Mine is a TD5/PUMA 110 axle, not Salisbury. (ROW Spec. 300 tdi). In relation to backlash in the diffs, are there any official documents or guides on how to adjust or even measure this? I always found this to be a little deep. I doubt this is what i need to adjust at this time but i would like a...

Play in Rear Diff. Input Flange

Thanks, I will remove rear prop when the opportunity arises and confirm if play (backlash) is only side to side. I am still trying to diagnose a rattling I'm experiencing on the overrun. Both props were removed and UJs are fine. I will confirm that the flange is held in place firmly...

Play in Rear Diff. Input Flange

Hi to all, 300tdi 110 Last week when rear propshaft was off I found what I considered to be play in the Rear Diff. Input flange. Easy to turn it side to side with a metallic sounding clunk when it reaches it's limit on either side. How much level of play should I get here if any?

    Changing Propshafts

I normally put the defender in neutral and very slowly either move forward or backward in small increments until the propshaft spider moves into a position where I can remove the nuts. Normally in a good position I can remove 2-3 nuts at one go before I might have to move a bit more. And I do...

    Drain Oil First?

As an update: I replaced the washer on the oil pressure sensor, tightened it back up and it's been three days far with no leaks. Thanks for the advice. Cheers.

    silicone hose info

I was very interested in a set for my 300tdi. Paddocks has some kits available, can anyone vouch for their quality?

    Reverse clutch bleeding?

I assume you have it in neutral? When you startup, depress clutch pedal and try to select gear what happens?

    Metallic Rattle only in 3rd & 4th??

Ok as an update: Removed front prop only to find that the UJs appear to be in fine condition. No play what-so ever and well lubricated. What I did find however is that the angle of the spiders cannot be changed on this propshaft. They seem to be phased by 2 spines and when I separate them...

    Drain Oil First?

Thanks. I could work with that.

    Drain Oil First?

I'm getting a small leak from the oil pressure switch on my 300tdi def. I have acquired a washer to replace the one on the switch that I assume is worn. Given the position of the switch in relation to the sump I assume I wouldn't have to drain the oil before taking out the switch. Am I correct...

    Fookin Bastid

As noted the slave is a short job (minus the bleeding). Make sure the hydraulic piping from the MC is reconnected on the slave cylinder hose snugly or you will do like me and spray brake fluid out when the system builds pressure. Had to end up cutting piping and getting it re-flared. The master...

    Metallic Rattle only in 3rd & 4th??

No, you're making sense. I'll change the 2 fronts with some GKNs as soon as I possibly can then monitor and update. I'm aware that the symptoms of worn UJs can be very diverse and I'd actually be very happy if this was indeed the UJs.

    Metallic Rattle only in 3rd & 4th??

Thanks. This was my next course of action (already have the rear pair and acquiring the front pair soon) but I'm curious as to why I hear this only in 3rd & 4th.

    Metallic Rattle only in 3rd & 4th??

DEF 110 300tdi R380 I've been trying to find the source of an annoying metallic rattle for a while now and have not been successful. It occurs only when I come off of the gas pedal while driving at a moderate speed. It never occurs in 1st or 2nd gear but always only in 3rd and very seldom in...

Sorry forgot to insert this in the post above

Clutch issue. Where is the fluid going?

Just as an update: Master cylinder installed, fluid topped up and bled and lo and behold I had pressure on the pedal again. Went for a test drive and found the gear changes to be significantly smoother and quieter :high5:, however discovered a leak at the hydraulic piping where the Master...

Clutch issue. Where is the fluid going?

Ok good to know. I can confirm for sure that it is still attached but in my opinion it felt a little flimsy. I imagined a stiff-like feeling as it is supposed to be sort of a pivot-like assembly? When the slave goes back on I imagine it will be held firmly in place due to the counter pressure...

Clutch issue. Where is the fluid going?

Thanks for the advice and link. I currently have the master cylinder out of the defender. Quite a bit of effort required to get the pedal box out I must say!! I'll pick a new M/C tomorrow, but as for the slave, I've already rebuilt it and I'm quite satisfied with the condition of it. I...

Clutch issue. Where is the fluid going?

When the slave cylinder is off (300tdi R380) is the rod that is connected to the clutch fork supposed to be loose or held firmly in place? In other words, show it be held in place centrally by the clutch fork? Mine is still connected but just loose.
