    td4 hard start when warm

UKspicer - a faulty can sensor will make it difficult to start as your description. A completely kaput can sensor would make it well nigh impossible to start.

    td4 hard start when warm

This sounds like typical camshaft sensor failure. Have a search and read all about it.

What the h*ll is below the fuel pump in my 03my TD4 auto?

It's a little independant fuel pump - dedicated soley to supplying fuel to the fuel-burning heater in the front LH wheel arch.

    Too much auto box fluid

It's impossible to see anything down the filler hole. But it'll give a reasonable reading. I've since got myself an infra-red thermometer and just take a reading off the transmission casing/engine sump. Be sure you have a small filler funnel.

    Too much auto box fluid

It needs to be checked with the engine running. If you open the level tube plug with a hot engine and the engine off I would expect a litre or so to pour out. Even with the engine running there will always be 50ml or so come down the level tube. See this post for how I did it...

Bad news about DPF removal - MOT 2014

I'm just hoping that we don't have to re-fit EGRs next. ;)

Sleep easy my friend - you don't have one. You're lucky. You don't want one. ;)

Bad news about DPF removal - MOT 2014

Too true - the day is coming when all MOT type tests throughout the EU will be similar and perhaps linked to one big computer network. In the last issue of 'Special Notices' update to MOT Testing Stations in December one of the topics was how to input foreign registration plates and country...

Bad news about DPF removal - MOT 2014

I also didn't know that was how VOSA interpreted the need for a vehicle to retain it's original exhaust components - so yes, many of us have been running 'illegally'. A DPF does not at present form part of the MOT. Diesels only have a smoke test - so it cannot currently be picked up by an...

Bad news about DPF removal - MOT 2014

Very bad news indeed - The Government have announced they are to change the rules on checking for the existence of a DPF if the vehicle left the factory with one fitted. To take effect from February 2014. See here for their Press Release of 4th December...

Does anyone else's tailgate window open by itself?!

To lower a Freelander rear window you really have to keep the 'unlock' button on the fob pressed for a good few seconds. Very easy if you sit on it of course. Lots of folks don't know that you can raise the rear window by putting the key in the rear door handle and turning it...

Does anyone else's tailgate window open by itself?!

Everytime you re-connect the battery, the rear window will automatically go fully down. It needs to be 're-calibrated' - dead simple. You just use the button to lower the window all the way down in one go. Then all the way up again without stopping. If you stop halfway the window will just...

End of an era - time to move on.

Yes - those are 'cool'.:) You can tell it's the 4x4 because of the raised suspension. I see loads exactly like that in Austria - the Austrian army use them - they had them in Kosovo for example. Lots of farmers in the Alps have bought them ex-army in khaki.

Squashed pipe td4. What is it?

Yup - perfectly normal - they'll all like that - from new.

End of an era - time to move on.

This could be a serious contender for the Freelander's replacement.

Some interesting ideas there guys. Audi A4/A6 - possible Volvo - XC90 - must check on dealerships/workshops in South-East Europe. Škoda Octavia - possible Audi tt V6 - too thirsty for me by far. LOL  Peugeot 206 GTi - wow Kawasaki - dear dear dear Food for thought...

    Synergy2a Purchased

The 3-way switch has nothing to do with whether you have the Pierburg MAF or not. The 3-way switch gives you the choice of whether you have Eco mode or Power mode. On an early Synergy the middle position is 'Off' On a later Synergy you have Eco2 as the centre position. There is a switch on...

End of an era - time to move on.

Lots of good suggestions there - but Mrs Sinvogel and I have gone through all the possibilities and implications involved in continuing travelling to Bosnia, Vojvodina, Serbia (and other places - all ex-War Zones) in the Balkans several times a year with the Freelander - and it's getting risky...
