Hi guys/girls. I throw myself on your mercy. I have managed in one of my better moments of stupidity filled my TD4 with Sainsbugs finest unleaded! 60lt into a tank with low fuel light on. My is happy in 1 sense(loads of petrol for her Rav4), & going berserk cos my hippo takes the dogs & her mother out.
The question is what is directly below the fuel pump in the wheelarch? It looks like one of the fuel filter variants, BUT it has an electrical connection on 1 end and another wire connected to the side, along with fuel lines.
I've been on RAVE which helpfully pointed me to a ford guide that no longer exists, so there's no help there. Any ideas? Please?:confused2:

Shag off.....I used to take the **** out of my dad when he did this until I did it myself......luckily empty tank, got to £10 of petrol before it clicked and then tipped the tank with diesel for the next 5days.
We have 3 cars and 2bikes with the hippo being the only one a doozle and you just automatically go for the pump your most to using if your having a thick day.
Funnily enough the td4 ran the best it ever has with a bit of petrol in it.

Funny that....it wasmy old man who did it to mine and despite only ever using diesel pumps for about 4 years. Drove it some way before realising he had did it and it had started to cough so petrol was right through system. Drained and cleared system and it was noticeable how much better it run after that. I give a regular does of treatment but didnt have anything like the effect the petrol did. Was worried about damaged seals in system etc but it will be 2 years on christmas eve and still no problems.

in winter we always used to put some petrol in with diesel to stop it freezing but nowadays they add stuff to it to stop it freezing but I know people who still put a gallon of petrol in with a tank of diesel

Thanks for the sympathy guys, Nathan-you were right-cock! That's a whole lot nicer than what I called myself! Hope it does run nicer, I've heard of the petrol in diesel trick for winter, but it's not that cold yet

Don't need to, Optimus. Ted the Gent is revived! Bit of smoke and rattling when first fired up, cleared now. He's sweet as.
The "thing" under the fuel pump looking like a filter variant is...........................................a fuel filter variant! The wires at one end were just dangling and held by the fuel pipe, still don't know what the wire on the side is for but he runs just lovely so I don't care. Thanks everyone who posted and all of you who read.
