    Carawagon?

here's a quote of his reply to me .... "I think I've seen that one before - not much left of the Carawagon other than the badges and the sides by the look of it It might be an interesting project for someone, but a heck of a lot of work if they want to put it back as a Carawagon. Oh, and...

    Carawagon?

i spoke to a mate the other day (linked him to this thread) who is a carawagon enthusiast, he told me the pop up roofs were an extra, an expensive extra that weren't necessarily fitted as often as might be thought he'd have been interested apart from the fact he already has two he's rebuilding...

    Carawagon?

i think there were a few carawagons that were built without the pop up roof, obviously less than were built with the pop up, i'm pretty certain that they actually had a name for that model as i saw a thread a couple of weeks ago with mention of these regardless it's a shame to see it sitting...

    what exhaust for 200tdi conversion

if you can weld run round your local tyre fitters and backstreet garages ask to see what they've got in the bins and scrounge oddments to make your own, i've built 2 for the 200tdi so far and one for a prima conversion none of them cost me anything but time

    Well...this is different

i've driven a "demountable", this was a pug504 pickup with a very well/professionally modified caravan shell it was bloody awful to drive with the scariest bodyroll i've ever experienced i've no idea what this motor would be like whilst driving but i'd approach it with extreme caution

    Series2 brake upgrading

if your wing has the cutout the pedal box with servo will drop straight in the 11" backplates are a direct swap for the 10" ones, the only thing is the holes in the backplate are drilled in a different position, so instead of the slave cylinders sitting at 12 o'clock they sit at 11 and 1...

    Series2 brake upgrading

ok one question, is your S2 an earlier one without the cutout in the wing to clear the pedalbox mounted servo ?? if it has the cutout you can easily fit the S3 servo pedal box you can also fit a dual line master cylinder for 10" brakes and for even more stopping power i'd then fit 11"...

    2.6 swb!?

i've no problems with folks trying things, it's your landrover you do want you with it you'll not be saving a rare landrover by cutting it up and fitting odd bits of it to an 88" chassis, you'll be building a relatively worthless bitsa that a rivet counter would probably just grunt over and...

    2.6 swb!?

from memory the offside mount was four inches or so (maybe more) further forward of the original mount, for me it'd either be scratch build a mount that bolts to the engine or weld new mounts to the chassis i don't recall for sure the nearside engine mount but i suspect i'd have a similar...

    2.6 swb!?

get yourself a photobucket account (free) you can then create albums to put photos in of different aspects of your life or events which makes them easy to find/share, i use the IMG tag as given to share my pictures you can take all the measurements you like from the sixpot chassis, they won't...

    2.6 swb!?

when i looked under Diddys bonnet the original 2.25p mounts were attached to the chassis with a second set of mounts fitted forwards of them that the engine sat on, the back of the radiator panel had been cut off to allow the fitment of a 200tdi rad right behind the grille plus the bulkhead i'm...

    2.6 swb!?

i was working on a 2.6 88" trayback (Diddy, built by the Rumsey brothers) just this sunday (misfires after a weekend playing in Sibbertoft and then refusing to start for a short while), my dad had a 3litre 80" when i was a kid and there's a picture on landytown of a 2.6 88" sitting in a field...

    Overland in a Series?

piffle, a broken halfshaft is easy enough to sort both halfshafts out of the rear axle, roll underneath, drain the oil, undo the prop from the rear diff (blocks under the front wheels), undo the ring of nuts from the diff and wriggle it out diff on floor look inside diff to see the broken...

    Overland in a Series?

brackets to carry a couple of spare leaf springs, brackets for fuel and water cans, maybe some secure waterproof boxes for a few electrical items and tools, a puncture repair kit (including stirrup pump) and a spare tube or two, a spare wheel complete and bare tyre, i'd also squeeze a halfshaft...

    Overland in a Series?

there's three or four of the carawagon lads did the morocco expedition thing a couple of years ago with little to no problems, i think the major modifications were TDIs under the bonnet and 3.54 diffs for the better cruising speed/fuel economy RMS is the chap to speak to on Land Rover Classic...

Ohh for goodness sake. Exhaust to bulkhead relationships

is that in a sixpot chassis ?? if so you need to google "tdi in sixpot chassis" as this has been discussed and resolved a few times

    Series brakes

does the pedal definitely return fully ?? if it's not returning fully there could be your problem (the pivot can and does partially sieze up) also it's a 2a so it's well over 40 years old, has the flexi pipe to the rear axle ever been changed ?? if not it could be ballooning inside and...

    diff building

ok i stand corrected but i did say "possibly" :), it was just another idea for him to work with which is why i also suggested he looked at Crown Differentials for the details like anything research is good along with folks sharing thier knowledge/experience "early" pinion bearings are...
