Thought I'd share some pics of this abused carawagon.

It's been sat on a lawn for a few years now where it has donated parts to a 2a.

makes an excellent shelf. also even being in the open, the galv has held up really well.

seems to be a 2.25 petrol

has a good canvas hood for it and also this thing, which has windows on either side, one side slides.

makes a good duck shelter... apparently

so, bit odd.. i thought all carawagons were 6 pots. also no popup roof and no wooden interior.. who knows what's happened to it over the years

i think it will either be sold for parts or hopefully someone one day will buy it and restore it.

i think there were a few carawagons that were built without the pop up roof, obviously less than were built with the pop up, i'm pretty certain that they actually had a name for that model as i saw a thread a couple of weeks ago with mention of these

regardless it's a shame to see it sitting there like that, i should think the weather is starting to eat that chassis sitting so close to the soil

ah that's interesting.

yup tis a shame. It's at a mates house.. i can't take it on, but i might try and get him to put it on ebay to sell to a restorer.

chassis is totally shot, patched to bits and not rusted to bits

i spoke to a mate the other day (linked him to this thread) who is a carawagon enthusiast, he told me the pop up roofs were an extra, an expensive extra that weren't necessarily fitted as often as might be thought

he'd have been interested apart from the fact he already has two he's rebuilding and the distance involved

wonder why they only put "supplied by" on the badge, that suggests they didn't build the body imho, surely it would have been better to have something that indicated searle's did the bodywork.

what was Carawagon , apart from the badges seems to have gone , so not really worth the effort

not sure what was involved. it has a crawagon roof (not popup) and seems to have the storage bit in the arches.

dunno, did you use to buy the new landies via them? or did you take it to them to be done?

that's interesting. can he give any more detail on what it would have originally looked like? were there some things that all of them had, etc?

is it normal that it's a 2.25? :)

not sure whether searle supplied the base truck or you did, my guess would be they did, iirc they did a few c&c trucks for the mod, I was just thinking people like pininfarina or peole that do the American trucks like starcraft or sherrold usually have "body by ......" or "coachwork by ...." that sort of thing, making it fairly obvious they did the creative bit.

here's a quote of his reply to me ....

"I think I've seen that one before - not much left of the Carawagon other than the badges and the sides by the look of it

It might be an interesting project for someone, but a heck of a lot of work if they want to put it back as a Carawagon.

Oh, and you are right - the pop up roof was an (expensive!) option so quite a few were converted internally with cupboards, sink, cooker and bed, but with the original roof.

Most were 4 pot as well, with just a smattering of 6 pot.

Thanks for the heads-up, and I hope someone does take it on, but I've already got two to restore as well as the one I'm using, so not for me this time, I'm afraid."

now you know just as much as i do ;)

ah, interesting thanks.

btw, out of interest i asked.

vehicle, roof, carb, so it's a full engine, decent salisbury rear axle, orig rear axle, safari door and full canvas roof he was looking towards 1k.

best he break the spanners out then, in my opinion he's got an inflated idea of the value for a project that's on bricks

there's a running 109 truckcab on ebay at present, i think for around 1200 and has been there for several weeks which is struggling to get any interest, there was also one on a "combat/1ton" chassis with a DB Tuckaway that i really fancied that struggled to get near a grand and to the best of my knowledge still hasn't sold

i keep watching 109s with possible thoughts of a future project

all i can say is best of luck to him and hope it does get saved but at that price i can see it becoming a permanent part of the scenery :(
