You could try joining the Land Rover Series One Club , or more specifically their forum . Series ones , in all shapes and sizes ,are regularly offered for sale , usually by people who are enthusiasts and are not out to make a fast buck .

The hard tops are the same for both the 86" and the 88" . I don't think Series 2/3 hard tops would fit Series 1s as they are wider . If you are not a member of this Forum it might pay you to join and ask your question there . They regularly come up for sale there ...

If you have the chassis number it should not be too difficult to find out exactly when it was built . It could be worth doing some research to see what you have . It won't be in the first 1500 or so built as they still had the 2ltr engine but you never know it might be one of the first 2.25ltrs...

I think the idea of lubricating them is to reduce friction between the leaves , making them more supple and making the ride better . The springs are more likely to sag than Rust/wear away . This must be a Land Rover thing as you don't read about doing this sort of thing with any other 4x4.

That is an early Series 2 , as others have said , which makes it rarer than a Series 1 as they were only made for three years . They became the 2a in 1961 , which are obviously more numerous . They are becoming more sought after and their values are rising all the time , If I were in the market...
