Although I haven't done mine yet I was considering contacting local powder coating firms and see if they could offer something similar in finish. I was working on the principle that even if they cannot do it themselves as they are in the trade they would know somewhere that could.

My steering wheel went sticky in warm weather. I gently rubbed my steering wheel back, spray painted with a gloss acrylic black spray paint and then sprayed it with a couple of coats of clear acrylic lacquer. Really came up like new and still looks good 2-3 years on

I seem to remember from a really good thread someone refurbing steering wheel finish by applying heat. Thread was really impressive because the guy doing it had little in the way of money but more than made up for it by his abilities to construct and refurbish with what was around him.
I seem to remember his name was Johnny or something similar but we'll worth reading, will try to search it out when I have more time unless someone posts it up here first.

You can send it away for refurb but it ain't cheap. I think it was in the £300-£400 range! I rubbed mine down and used some plastic filler to sort the cracks in it and then repainted it. It still looks good months later but then it has only been sat in the loft with all the other refurbed parts.

When I got my Landy in 2016 (It's a 1977), I could not touch the wheel without getting insanely mucky. I tried to wipe it off with soap and water (ha ha), but it wasn't until I gave it a thorough rub with glue remover (!!!) that the goo came off. I can now drive without wearing gloves!
