Can anyone recommend a usb gps for a netbook, running netbook and unfortunately i can't use my phone's gps receiver ( i've tried ) but just a general ' i've got one of these and they work ' type.

Cheers

This is the one I use on my netbook:

BlueNEXT 65 Channel GPS Dongle BN-903S

No idea ho it compares with others, but seems to work OK, though occassionally it can take a while to pick up a signal, but I just make sure it is plugged in and setup in the Landy before I leave for a laning season and usually by the time I arrive at the first lane it will be working and keeps going all day.

Be interested to know what others use.

I looked into a similar one, i imagine that those with an extended usb cord would fair better for signal pick up though?

I'm currently attempting to hook up my Android phone as an external gps device, but it's proving difficult, the software is available but it's all abit sketchy and not very well documented, but i shall see if i can get it to work over the weekend, if not then i'll be ebaying a dongle next week.

It does actually come with a USB extension cable, so you have the option of plugging it straight into the netbook, or using the cable to place it somewhere else to get a better signal, but to be honest, I tend to just plug it straight into the netbook :D

I'll have a look when we get together for the SW day meet if i haven't got mine ;)

Btw we're looking for more laning buddies if you're down here at any time, we usually do it on a weekend and we're looking into going to dartmoor in the near future :D

Maplins do one for £20 I've used it loads with no problems at all and very fast satellite detection.

No problem, I'll make sure I bring the netbook and gps dongle with me!!

Have never been laning down in your next of the woods yet, but from looking at the maps you are spoilt for choice :D so would be good to meet up some.

We have quite a few lanes up this way as well, but there do not seem to be so many around Dartmoor and mid Devon :(, but saying that I am currently planning a days laning around North Tawton and North Dartmoor :D, probably be around the end of December/early January now - the weekends seem to fill up before you know it!! Never driven any of them before, so will have to see what its like!! Normally head out with couple of other mates and I'll let you know when we are doing it.

Let me know if you plan anything and if I can make it I'll tag along if thats OK .

That'd be great, i think Vagrent has 1 or 2 he knows about up Dartmoor way.

As for down here we're out most weekends looking for some, i think i've mapped about a 40km trail so far with a 1/4 of that pure lanes from freelander types to footwell deep water and pretty hairy steep buggers and all that is 10km radius from where i live! Yesterday we found a excellent wooded area but i've got to confirm it's legal ;)

If your up for a sat or sun day out, let me know and we'll arrange something :D I'll drop you my number in a PM
