V unstable unfortunately but you can live with it.
I have a bit of overkill in my motor.
TomTom for postcodes when on 4x4 Response/SAR duties, Dell Axim X30 PDA running WM2003 for Memory Map (in conjunction with bluetooth gps mouse) and a Magellan 330 GPS which is also handheld and is used to provide spot refs when on SAR/4x4 Response work

I also run two systems,
a Garmin nuvi 1690 for post code and address location as Deano says handy for 4x4 Response, and memory map on a Ipaq HX4700., they run side by side all the time when i am out. of course also got paper maps and compass for when a failure happens.

Hi all, I was gonna start a thread for this Q, but thought it relevant enough to be added here. I downloaded an app for my android phone (mm tracker), which is able to read mm qct files from the phones memory card. Only prob is I ain't got me maps for it anymore. Was stored on ext hard drive, but the ex has deleted the lot. Anyone got any ideas where I can download the qct files from online? Not torrent sites. Thanks.

You are talking about 30 odd Gb of data. That is one big download! Best off asking someone to copy them to a set of dvds. Hopefully someone close to you will have them... if not let me know and i will set up my dvd writer!

Finally got mine sorted...
Dell Inspiron 910
USB GPS receiver
12v power
dash mount
Memory Map
OS maps of Southern & Central England & Wales
Some great Topos of Morocco & Norway from GoTrekkers
Also some topos of Spain that Im practising calibration on
All for £250

more like 3Gb for all of the UK, not including northern Ireland

well if you use something like giganews for usenet they retain their binary files (like the one above) for 933 days, so a few months is nothing when it helps out in 2 years time!!

Not if they are MM files. The OS maps come compressed on six DVDs. Each one is 4.3 Gb

Interested to know what compression program you are using 'cos I ain't found one that works as well as this... Harry Potter would be proud!

the most common complaint about MM is the lack of coverage abroad...no wonder if people are still downloading old versions on the web for free

MM dont create the maps, they sell them in their own digital format to use with their software

Memory-Map : About Us : Company Information

Partnering with the leading cartographers such as Ordnance Survey and Geographers' A-Z in the UK, and Maptech in the US, Memory-Map produce digital 'raster' based mapping solutions that display accurate and detailed real colour images of original paper-based maps or charts for use on PC, Pocket PC and Handheld PC systems.

never said they did...yes OS make the OS ones etc etc, MM just sell them in the MM format.
So why bother making more maps available in MM ready versions if people take the ****!?
When you have to mess about calibrating foreign maps of certain areas because MM dont do it, it goes some way to explaining why.
And then people moan older MM maps dont work with newer software!

There is a hack to make the older maps work. I've got pretty much all the maps. Just getting round to making a mount for the netbook.

is that not just as bad as not buying the map from MM?

not really, MM isnt the only supplier of digital OS Maps, if you have an android phone you can use

1. OS Atlas Lite
2. Maverick
3. OS Map

these are just 3 of the programs that can be used to view digital OS maps and they are all free to use and up to date

maybe MM dont update some of the maps because there isnt enough call for them, maybe they dont have the man power to do the work, maybe dont have the licence to use up to date maps or it may just be that there is no up to date maps available
