Lot of peeps prefer notebook n gps dongle.. personal choice i prefer a bigger screen

I do not know whether this is of interest toy ou... but I have an old XDA II. One of the O2 things from a few years ago...seriously out of date and nothing approaching a smartphone. However, I does have the facility for a memory card.

I installed MM direct to the phone, along with tom tom. Connected to a bluetooth ggps antenna and everything works fine! Its robust enough to use in the landy... easy to put in my pocket when we leave the car... and we do not have to worry about taking a lap top with us.

PLUS... XDAs must be two a penny by now!

ime not very good with computers and the like, but cant a tom tom with a pda have the pda removed and new pda put in with memory map on it as it is already a gps,or am i talking bollox as usual..(or is it totally different ,please enlighten me

I got the same attitude, it small easy to carry about, and if your in the pub its in your pocket, last thing you want is a lap top bag kicking about.

if you break it just ebay and for a small amout of £££ you got another one...

I got the proper car cradle for mine so it looks puker and charges at the same time.

This is my thought on it, do you realy want your phone to be everything, what happens if you get a call while your looking at memoery map?, also dont for get the power drain on the bit of kit, the more it does the more it uses, and more chance of batery failing at the wrong time, also how many items can your phone have with bluetooth connections at the same time so if you got your phone bluetoothed with a hands free kit, then can you blue tooth a GPS with it?

I like the idea of a seperate system dedicated to mapping as you have the info there, I have been in the position of being on the phone trying to locate someone by phone.

I also carry a set of OS maps and a compass with me incase the system fails.

At £23 a throw... you dont need to have one as your phone. It can be your dedicated mapping machine and removable too!

also forgot to ask...if i load the map cd to my normal laptop...how do i get it onto the tablet? stick it all on a memory stick?

Ok...ive worked some of it myself...
Im gonna get an Ausus netbook with Windows 7 off fleabay (as its got an external cd drive), 12v charger, screen mount & usb gps receiver and run memory map off that.

Only other question is, if i go abroad eg Morocco again, obviously i cant use MM there, so is there a topo mapping interface eg Garmin Topo Morocco used with Mapsource ??? that would work on the Asus

ta all
