Will do. Just to confirm the pump needs to be centralised on the slots?
With the engine locked at TDC the pump should be off cam at the null point between number four (just fired) and number one (about to fire). With the chain set correctly to timing marks. (As it is) the pump should be around mid point of the adjustment slot. Fit and engage the tensioner on lower chain. Then nip up pump nuts until pump can just be tapped gently around but not turned by hand. Insert dial gauge and push in until 2 mm shows on dial. Lock DTI in position and zero it. Tap pump towards engine until 0.95 mm shows on dial and tighten pump bolts.

Will work same. No idea what make it is, Nielsen perhaps? Had it off @Bagshot it is the one for a P38 M51 I believe.

Only one shiny tool I’ve got :D

Ok cool attached is photo of ones I got from a link in another timing post. Adapter on left is one I am using (lost plastic tightening nut) so assume it ok to use?

There should be an extension with a knurled screw to hold the DTI in the adaptor. You screw both adaptors together use the long pin and the knurled screw to lock the DTI in place. When you are sure engine is locked at TDC and pump is at null position on cam between number 4 and number 1 you push DTI in until it shows 2 mm on small dial then lock DTI to adaptor with knurled screw. Then zero outer dial. As the pump is then tapped towards engine the cam lift will show on DTI. If you go to far, back pump off and try again but last movement to set lift MUST be towards engine.

From the photos earlier it looks to me as if the pump is set wrong. With timing marks on chain lined up correctly as they are. The pump holding studs should be approx midway along the adjustment slot. I think the pump is set next to fire number 5 and needs turning clockwise until number 1 is next to fire. The pump MUST only be turned clockwise, trial and error will sort that. With the chain marks set correctly the Woodruff key slot in the sprocket should be almost vertical.. The pump must be turned clockwise until with the studs in the adjustment slot approximately mid way along the slot the woodruff key on the pump mates with the sprocket position. Firing order is 1-5-3-6-2-4. I am sure he will get it sorted if he takes care.

Fog lamps can be fitted to diesel autos prior to 1999 providing the bumper cover is vented and to all manuals. Fog lamps will not fit on autos 1999 and on.
