What did you do with your Range Rover today

Already tried, absolutely nothing, got a little bluetooth dongle was able to connect that to the car and that was able to read a bit of data so obviously ports all working fine.

Just the nanocom that has given up
press and hold on the screen for 30s, I've read in the past others have found that kicks it into life.. other than that its an email to the BBS :( they seem helpful, once you can get hold of them
 
well had a look through the old coolant and was very clear/ well blue but very little in the way of debris however there was a small amount of copper flecks in it so at somepoint it's had k seal either in radiator or engine and has been probably flushed out countless times since then hence just the minute amount.

Took her out for a drive earlier to make sure it wasn't going to over heat and such, hit traffic multiple times which not a bad thing I suppose as it means it's not overheating while standing, gave it a good blast down the lanes and back for about 20 miles plus idled for around 15 minutes at the halfway point then turned the hevac to lo even though I don't have aircon because it was getting toasty on hi which I had one to help make sure all the air was out and without any extra help from the heater matrix it still stayed where it should and didn't over heat so bonus.

Sounds silly but I was worried that going from it clearly running to cold all the time to a normal stat was going to reveal overheating problems but doesn't look like it.


Though with the nanocom going kaput so having no get out of jail card potentially it might be the last straw as many people have said to me they've noticed me being completely stressed and not the same since I got the car constantly worried about one problem after another and truthfully I'm sick of feeling that way to.

An extremely large part of me is saying to just sell it on now and go back to the freelander as that has never had any major issues and I've still got it as never got round to selling it yet partly because I was worried about the rangie going kaput.
 
And to top it all off after I though I had sorted all the leaks out and it was me being paranoid with lpg leaking into coolant it turns out I do still have lpg leaks… they’re leaking out of the vapourisier casings.

The heat setting makes no difference when bleeding the system as it is full flow at all settings:).

Oh I’m aware but I meant in regards to having an airlock in the heater matrix I find it gives no heat out the vents unless revved as the extra flow from the pump helps force hot water in and when let off it very quickly cools down again until air is completely out of it.

I also found when running the modded stat having the heat did used to bring the gauge down because obviously heat was being took away from the matrix unlike when set to cold so my testing was also to confirm I wasn’t helping it not over heat by having the heat on.

Let's just say I'm no stranger to a stay in the local nut house so I was already bonkers before hand. Though with all the stress of it a couple of weeks ago I was close to putting myself back in.

I should do the smart thing and just get rid if only for my own health but part of me doesn't want to give in just yet. The missus always said she's never met anyone as stubborn as me except our daughter she's worse than me!
 
Well a bunch of stuff I ordered from island 4x4 weeks ago finally came today so fitted new pollen filters and used some self adhesive draft excluders to seal them on the covers.

Redid the ptfe on the hose Barb for the reducer Barb I replaced last month as there was still a slight leak but no where near as bad as before.

While I was picking up the draft excluder from screwfix I checked to see if they did the gas leak spray and they did for £3 so picked up a bottle of that and sure enough no leak there now but could still get a faint whiff of gas so sprayed all the point and found it was on the T for the copper lines to one of the reducers so nipped that up and it stopped bubbling.

Replaced the overflow/return pipe as that would let a little coolant out of touch slightly so I didn’t think it was sealing too well, upon taking the old one of it literally snapped in my hands which explains why there was a bit of hose clamped on the over the corner of it I assumed maybe for protection to stop the corner from rubbing but nope it seems like someone did that to deal with a break before. There was no blockage in the previous one but did find the new one gave a much better stream into the tank where it was more of a dribble before.

Fitted a new genuine coolant cap as one the o rings on the other one were seeming a bit flat but would also sometimes getting hissing after stopping from it unless really cranked down. the system was still under pressure so it wasn’t actually letting any coolant out but still.

I did find last week though after sorting out all the coolant leaks though the thermostat to water pump clamp did open back up again and seeped so nipped that back up the other day. Anyway I found that with no more leaks the system would still hold a lot of pressure even over night/few days I initially put this down to the lpg leaking back into the coolant though was getting no bubbling or anything like that. Tried only on the petrol but actually was the same. Pressure isn’t building up so much that it’s shooting off hoses or loosing coolant even on long trips as I took it up to Yorkshire for the week about 100miles each way. Just not seeming to release so since I’d already ordered the cap and hose weeks thought you never know might sort it.

Sniff test is negative for exhaust gasses anyway

On the way up to Yorkshire with @kermit_rr thermostat mod I could barely get it to temp. It just about sat at 12 maybe ever so slightly less on the gauge cruising along at 60mph the moment I went to 70 just to over take a lorry so for like 15 seconds the dial would go down from the increased airflow and take about 10 minutes to get to 12 again. That was on the Sunday before last in the day so it was decently warm

Coming back on Sunday just gone in the evening car was showing 13c the whole way back I couldn’t get it much past the first white line and round town it never really gets close to getting up to temp so I figure it worth swapping back to standard to see what happens



Thermostat hasn’t come yet though hopefully not waiting ages for it though as at this point I could have got it from one of the local motor factors quicker even though they have to order it in. and for not much more.

Oh and after cleaning up the underside of the engine before I went initially when I got to Yorkshire didn’t see any oil but when I got back the sump had a decent coating again. It’s actually starting to look like it’s the sump gasket rather than the front cover.

When I get under to the the thermostat I might see if any of the sump bolts need nipping up while I’m there.

I did do the Yorkshire drive all on lpg though and she did well with no issues even with those two slight leaks. Though did forget the gas filling cap at Morrisons in Wakefield… ordered another and put on today.
Otto's oil leaks were from barely finger tight valley gasket bolts (front and back of the Vee), but even on the GEMS they needs lots taking off to get to them. THOR with LPG probably much worse. So when I was buttoning him back up I torqued them, let them sit overnight, then retorqued when they went about 1/8-1/4 turn tighter.
 
Uncovered him and took the dehumidifier out, ready to go for his new half exhaust tomorrow. SWMBO taking him as I am still out of commission from a chest infection. Actually passed out this morning while trying to ring in sick, now have a very sore shoulder to go with the other issues, but missed breaking my face or collar bone on the door frame, so small mercies.

We move in a week still have loads of packing to do and I also need to get a fork seal changed and re-MOT on the Honda at the same time. On the leg with the stripped head on the securing bolt in the lower fork leg....

Already tried that too. Sent an email to them.
My Nanocom failed a couple of months ago, after 10 years good use. Did an RMA with BBS, and two weeks later back & working.

In my case it failed the latest update, after which it would not communicate although appeared to start ok. Apparently there's three micro-controllers inside, and one had failed memory.

Make double sure you fill out the Export docs exactly as BBS tell you, or there will be extra duty to pay !!

Finally got around to reading the last wheel off, the last wheel nut cap decides to spin.
Now got to decide how to get the socket off and how to get the dead wheel nut off. Suspect that's going to be hard work

cut a slot in the end of the chrome cover and peal it off with a Sharp chisel then use a smaller socket
 
Changed the rear passenger lekky window switch for one off a breaker, all windows working as they should. Checked leak offs and , not sure really, but I still think I have a very slight leak still.
Pumped the tyres up again...really need to get the hurricans refurbed.

Yeah, all P38A owners are on the edge of a nervous breakdown. Freelander definitely less stressful.
