Thanks for that Mr HC, all part numbers have been passed on and all being well I should have the car back next week. My mechanic found this during the stripdown, I think the place that did the warranty work last year weren't very careful when they changed the water pump!

Lol, I'm replacing most of it because it's got 130k on it, not because it's broken..... Hopefully that's just the drivers side vanos seals. Didn't think there'd be much call for 2nd hand timing parts.

Let's face it, we don't own these fookin cars because they are practical, reliable and cheap to fix, for me i have always said the pleasure from owning these is the relief when you finally resolve the mind bending head fooking, wallet raping barsteward of a problem, until next time :)

I have a similar thought about work, I hate it but there's no better feeling than finishing after a long night.
I'll be made up when it's done and the engine is the quietest BMW V8 I've ever heard.
Wishful thinking lol but ye, I've got faith :rolleyes:
 
Home stretch....... Has anybody got any simplified instructions for setting the vanos units to the stop position with a multimeter. Thanks.
 
Thanks lads. We've hit a problem, the RH vanos casing has a crack around the solenoid inside the thread so I need to locate a vanos unit asap. Any ideas?
 
Had a drive and went to see my car today while dropping off the new vanos distribution housing. It doesn't look good but I've been told the end is near. Got a feeling there's gonna be bits left over lol.
