Confused dot com.....

I made a mistake thinking BTD's comment was about the L322 M62 Engine....so I pointed out there were no Rockers on the M62....

BTD then pointed out that his post about the rockers was meant for someone else.....

Now this?

How did we get from there to here?
Lol, who knows.
It's like when you're doing a Google search for the location of a cam sensor and end up watching narcoleptic dwarf goat wrestling on YouTube.

oops, didnt quote, now its below i dont know how to get rid of this one so i am gonna put up a pic of Alan in his new car

I didn't think he would be your type mate
i think we may charged with bringing a thread into disrepute , again...
Back to you OP :)

Ok, it's been passed around a few garages but I settled on one 4 weeks ago simply because they said they would only charge for work done rather than pay for fault finding.
After curing 3 oil leaks, a water leak, taking cam lobe measurements, checking tappet clearances (no gap on any lifter) pushing the lifters with a tool making sure they all had similar/equal pressure the tapping problem has been narrowed down to vanos seals.
I've seen it mentioned that the vanos seals can be replaced without any cam locking kit but can't find instructions how.
Can anybody she'd any light on this?
Thanks.

Leave me out of it, I own a Range Rover remember so my problem cup is overflowing lol.
Can't beat a good bit of banter, as for bringing a thread into disrepute, that happened as soon as HC turned up lol.

I shall try and stay on track..;)
I think this video is the one i watched about getting your cam locking kit from B&Q.

i am not sure of your budget but the kit below is really good value i think although i have never used one and easily resellable when your project is done.
I would be doing the timing chain guides while i was in there in which case you would need a 9 foot breaker bar to undo the crank bolt and the locking tool.
You may find the rattle is your timing chain guide, taking off the sump will give you a clue as very common.

You could make one off these, i will be doing my vanos at some stage..

Are you rebuilding the vanos with the beisan systems kit ?

That's a damn good price for the Timing Locks....£155.....I paid considerably more for mine!

I was going to spend 2.5k on an engine so I suppose that's my budget but would like to get it done for less. I have labour costs to deal with as well so that has to be included in the total spend. If the vanos isn't a big tear down, I would prefer to tackle the chain and guides another time but it's down to how much it'll be once the vanos is done. Cheers mate, good find on the video, helps a bit but not sure what the mechanic will make of it.

Nice.
The vanos units to buy i think are around £350 each side and i think the beisan kit comes in at around £150 with the seals and tool. you can also send the units off for somebody else to swap out the seals.
i would buy the locking kit and sell it again after

I'll buy the kit but probably keep it as I also have an E39 M5 with the S62 engine. Hopefully won't need it lol.
Next update soon I hope.

Keep us posted mate, I'll buy it off you if not(the timing kit, not the Rangey ), it's about time I started messing with the engine, I've had just about everything else apart
