Hi, I'm new to this forum and also new to freelander but could do with a bit of help. I have recently purchased a 2002 td4 auto and I love it but it has a few niggling problems.
The odometer says error instead of the mileage, some mornings it will display the mileage and work fine until you switch it off, then when it's started again it says error again and will stay like that all day.
The other problem (unsure if it's related or not) is sometimes the car won't start until I wiggle the relays at the bottom of the fuse box under the steering wheel.
Hope someone can help, thanks in advance.

First welcome to the site and feel free to introduce yourself. The wiggling sounds a drastic call to start so I seek a garage electrician if you are not skilled. I guess this maybe a connection to your odometer problem.
Thanks for the reply, I was hoping it would be something simple I could do to keep the costs down as funds are tight but I'll have to take it to a garage after Christmas.

when is it not starting 1 when it is cold or 2 when it is hot,
It's random and only happens every so often. It will just turn over and make no attempt to fire until I wiggle the row of yellow relays that are located under the fuse box and then it fires up no problem and runs a dream. I don't know what the relays control, think I might replace them all and see what happens. Thanks for the reply.

Here you go. This should help.

It failed to start again today and I noticed that I couldn't hear the lift pump. Switched it on and off a few times until I heard the pump and it started. Thinking I might need a new pump or is there a relay for the pump?

When you can't here the pump and failed to start, give the pump a gentle tap to see if it starts to work.

Just a quick update, car wouldn't start again this morning, no noise from lift pump so I gave it a few taps and still nothing. Checked plug to the lift pump with a voltmeter and nothing there so I decided to start from square 1 and remove and check all the relays in the inside fuse box. This time when I removed the last relay on the vertical row at the bottom I noticed it was slightly burnt on one of the legs, so I replaced it and it started no problem. Fingers crossed. Just need to sort the error message on the odometer now. Thanks for all the help.
