hi, ive a 1997 v8i on gas and im getting about 70 miles for a £10, i also have a 90 with 300tdi auto fitted, it cost about the same to run, the diso with the v8 is so much nicer to drive and the power is great. i wsh i had fitted a v8 to the 90 when i changed the engine.

cheers Gary

Get a bloody v8 and after a few months if you dont like it get the tractor instead. I bet you keep the v8 though.....
I think the gist of it seems to be V8s more power better sound (not more torque though apparently) and more thirsty, and the more die hard offroader/DIY mechanic seem to favour the 300 - likes water more, less to go wrong better on juice etc. Have you thougt of an LPG one?

I still smile when i get in mine and start it up, it sounds great and suits me fine.

Alright not sure if you've decided yet i had a v8 3.9 and it was costing me near on 50p a mile and i wasn't heavy footed i got rid of that i then had a 200 tdi that wasn't that bad on diesel i then got a 2001 td5 auto didn't like it i've now got a manual 300 tdi and its the nut's for £30 i can get around 170-190 miles i'd got for a 300.

If you're gonna do 5k a year and economy isn't really an issue, i would go for a range rover 4.0se. If you want economy go for the 300tdi.

well it looks like the V8 will have to wait & i'll keep looking for a 300 ! i looked at the one on ebay lovely motor but he's had it on there 3 times now with no one buying it! must be the mpg because i cant see much else wrong with it.
so if anyone knows where there are any good ones this side of the country let me know or a V8 i with a decent lpg system!

I meant if he's doing 5k a year, get a 4.0se rangie. I wouldn't bother putting lpg on it for that mileage. Unless you can find one already done!

I would love a rangey but i need the 7 seats! Blxxdy kids apparently if you stuff them all in the boot you end up on intercepters on channel 5 and get a ban:biggrin1:
