Cruisers are good, but Patrols kick arse in all the comps, other than a
couple of exceptional $3k Rangies that have had $10k spent on them.

So are GQ Patrols, they just don't break, so only need a grease gun & oil
change.

I used to be a misguided Rover nut too, till I looked out and noticed there
was more fu to be had if I spent less time repairing an understrength Rover
driveline all weekend.

Pat,

I know you like those Jap 4WD, for some reason I cannot bring myself to
even consider an Asian vehicle!

I guess the "brain washing" in 1968 prior to sevice in SVN, at Army
recruit training, has never worn off. Yes I'm horrendously biased and
will never change.

I will stick to Rover, I know them and their short falls, but I will
NEVER pay any money for an Asian vehicle.

Have a close look at a GQ some time, monster diffs, gearbox & axles, disc
brakes, coils suspension, full chassis, maybe a lot of it copied from Rover
but it's twice the size so takes a hammering, you'll end up on your lid,
giving up or well stuck before the driveline fails.
Rover V8 was great, mine particularly after spending about $4k but after
breaking axles with only a blit of the throttle at 1000 rpm, and feeling the
nagging call of a 3rd gearbox, I was faced with the decision of spending
$10k on a ute conversion, HD gearbox & MaxiDrive diffs, so when my $14k dual
cab Patrol came up and slapped me in the face saying take it, and after
seeing how well they performed and handled the abuse of others, I had to let
the V8 go. The factory LSD lets my GQ get anywhere my Rangie would have with
the air locker engaged.

Yeah, fair comment. Asian 4WDs are no fun, stupid things do what you want
them to do and they never break down. rubbish.

So you never got to see rovers struggling around in a very small amount of
snow, that figures.

Just don't take up skiing. You'll be very frustrated and embarassed.

I hate the cold, that's why I live in the sunshine state.

I know the feeling. My Cruiser has one in the back. After I drove the
vehicle home (second hand) I swore that the spacing between the locking
plates must have been out - until a few people in my club drove it and
confirmed that it's the way they are. Noddy-proof and fantastic off-road
though.

Steve.

You think that's bad try one in the front with manual steering, like I had
in my Landog.

know some people who desperately need to be told of this. Frequently

There are quite a few down market Range Rover variants, none of which are
imported into Australia. They have vinyl trim, steel road wheels and many
features deleted, and are intended for government fleet contracts, such as
police and military customers.

Geez thats as bad as the dumb truckies who will only drive a truck that
has a "KW" badge on it
totally out of date, uncomfortable, noisy, aerodynamics of a block of
units, unsafe cabs, crap ergonomics and made in the US
they won't even consider driving a European truck which is just the
opposite and has just as much power

this sort of backward thinking is why we are still stuck with drum
brakes and cabs that offer no protection in a crash

I'm not talking about trucks :)
I'm talking about crappy tinny asian cars, not to mention their fugly 4wds.

different type of vehicles, same mentality

people refer to Jap cars as being made of recycled coke cans, Coke cans
are made of "Aluminium"
what do thay make Landrovers out of????????

you can put crap on the Japs all you like, I would never place myself or
my family in such a dangerous verhicle as and old Landrover EVER

Landrover got left behind in the 70s by the Japs, same backwards
mentality that you show, the Landrover is/was not the be all or end all
of 4WDs, sure they built a rough and ready 4WD but they were never a
strong or reliable vehicle
