Very good point, recheck those readings @Its_ok_im_jkEither something is wrong with his DVM or he has a strange battery, it should not read 14 volts unless the engine is running.

It's a brand new battery,Is that while you are actually turning the key to crank or after? It sounds like the battery is lacking capacity.

What voltage does your DVM show on the old battery? It's a brand new battery,
It's a brand new battery, Hankook MF60038 Car Battery
I trust the DVM
11.95v mateWhat voltage does your DVM show on the old battery?
haven't tried recharging it yet either11.95v mate
So that is flat.11.95v mate
Yeah, that's why I replaced it originally. I will pop it on charge and see if that does the trick. So that is flat.
Yeah but I have been charging the old battery, I will swap it over when it's done.Ooer... 12.00 volts isn't à good starting point..
You need at least 12.6, did you check the earth continuity between the starter/block and chassis?

It was just to show how much the battery drops (or didnt) when I try and turn over

Can you try jumping if from another vehicle to see if it starts with 2 batteries ?
A starter turning over on a bench is a lot different to trying to turn over an engine. I haven’t read the rest of the thread though so I might be off on what your are trying to do.
Could be a duff ignition switch, common problemYeah I understand that, I just had to make sure it worked before putting it back on, otherwise i would have ordered a new starter motor.
There doesn't seem to be any real power going to it from the switch live, I assume there Sims a faulty relay ~ I just don't know where.
How can I test it?Could be a duff ignition switch, common problem
I don't think RAVE covers your vehicle,I have just hd a quick look and it doesn't go beyond the BMW V8. you may need TOPIX which requires a subscription. How can I test it?
How can I find out what the fuseboard in the engine bay does~ the lid shows a vague idea, but a wiring diagram would be great. Cant find anything online~ you mentioned RAVE before, where can I get it?

If someone turns the key for you, what voltage do you get on the thin wire at the starter?
