Hopefully not a faulty replacement battery.
If it clicks at the starter, you are getting some voltage but maybe not enough power to turn the starter with the engines resistance in addition.

Can you try jumping if from another vehicle to see if it starts with 2 batteries ?
A starter turning over on a bench is a lot different to trying to turn over an engine. I haven’t read the rest of the thread though so I might be off on what your are trying to do.

Ooer... 12.00 volts isn't à good starting point..
You need at least 12.6, did you check the earth continuity between the starter/block and chassis?

Yeah but I have been charging the old battery, I will swap it over when it's done.
It was just to show how much the battery drops (or didnt) when I try and turn over

I don't have jump leads, but I will ask around

Yeah I understand that, I just had to make sure it worked before putting it back on, otherwise i would have ordered a new starter motor.
There doesn't seem to be any real power going to it from the switch live, I assume there Sims a faulty relay ~ I just don't know where.

Could be a duff ignition switch, common problem

Here is the lid and hopefully the fuses too

How can I test it?
How can I find out what the fuseboard in the engine bay does~ the lid shows a vague idea, but a wiring diagram would be great. Cant find anything online~ you mentioned RAVE before, where can I get it?
I don't think RAVE covers your vehicle,I have just hd a quick look and it doesn't go beyond the BMW V8. you may need TOPIX which requires a subscription.
If someone turns the key for you, what voltage do you get on the thin wire at the starter?

I got almost nothing, 0.5v
I'm charging the new battery which is at 13.1v at the minute, so I'll whip it off charge and back into the car and double check it!
