The new bit of fuel line you put in, if it's clear, start the engine, leave it ticking over, get someone to lay underneath and watch the flow, he shouldn't actually see much!

Then rev it a bit and see if there are any air bubbles in the flow of fuel. They should be relatively easily seen if there are any, rev, let go, rev, let go a few times so it pulls a lot and a little all the while seeing if air is entering the system. If it is, then take the top off the fuel tank cover in the boot and check the couplings to the fuel tank and pipes .. The fittings, being nylon/plastic can crack and let air in, similarly the fuel pipes themselves are often left in standing water/mud and can allow air in. There's a chance you'll have to dig out mud to even get to the fuel line connections ... ;)

Hi mate cant see any air in the fuel line, the engine starts andmost of time ticks over but then just conks out, blowing blue smoke out of exhaust, the 4x4 garage told me to take oil cap off and if its blowing loada smoke outa there then its head, but no smoke comin outa there, its really baffling me after doing and trying so much, is it worth just buying a new lift pump?
 
if the fuel supply is good , its time to check the air inlet ,try taking off the air inlet just before the turbo for a breif test run. a collapsed air filter or an internally collapsed hose could be strangling the air supply, which can lead to a high vacuum pulling oil through the valve stem seals to give the blue smoke.

hi mate is the airfilter in the cylinder laid down on the passenger side, and thanks for your advice , i will check it all in the morning, if that fails i will buy a lift pump. still got a strong inkling its that and diesel aint getting through properly and starving it
