hi all, i have a disco 200tdi, today my partner ran out of diesel, i then put fresh diesel in but now its barely running, it ticks over but wen i rev it it conks out, if i try n drive it it cuts out after about 10 metres, i have bled the injectors from the back to front but still no change, can any one please help me, thanks in advance

Sounds like lift pump maybe? When you ran it dry you emptied the fuel filter. The lift pump may be struggling to keep up with the demand

hi mate is the lift pump the manual pump lever? i tried pumping it but theres no pressure there like nothing is pumping through

Try turning the engine over for a second. I the cam could be on the lever. If nothing still then yeah its the lift pump
it does actualy tick over but wen i rev it just dies, do u know how i can soet the lift pump please mate?

What Elsie said ..

Also, if your fuel filter housing has a bleed screw, use it, undoing and doing it up again a few times whilst it's ticking over. It's possible there's a shed-load of air in the pipes too, and revving it pulls it through, stopping the engine, then when you let it off air gets drawn back into the system again.

I wouldn't bother filling your fuel filter like Robin says or putting a new one on - far too cheap and obvious. Much better start wiv the most difficult and expensive posibility and work back. [\sarcasm]

the fact its running at all rules out a simple air lock, if you ran out of diesel youll have pulled some crap out the bottom of the tank.... first thing is put on a new fuel filter... use the priming lever and the filter bleed screw to fill the filter with diesel then it should start , if youre not getting fuel to the filter look for a similar object inboard of the rear offside wheel ... its a sedimenter... basically a fuel filter case without the filter element, theres a plastic drain on the bottom which will snap if you try to undo it. bolt (11mm?) top centre to remove the casing and clean out the crap.,

hi mate , i got a new diesel filter, then bled the screw on top while ticking over, then took the lift pump off n took it to a 4x4 garage n he said it was fine, then he mentioned the sedimentor n told me to bypass it with fuel line wich i did, n now its blowing smoke out and i also bled the injectors, still no look, the guy at the 4x4 garage mentioned he needs to do a compression test wich could poiint to head gaskett gone or needs skimming either way its gonna cost a bomb he said, have you any other suggestions, its only happened since it ran out of diesel, thanks mate
