Well M'lud, sounds like your hoperation has effected your perception of life in your castle!!!Morning folks,
Dry and bright again, if a bit chilly. Time for a brew and to inspect the grounds and the estate in general. I can hear the chauffeusses preparing the carriage to exercise the hounds so peace will reign for a couple of hours while I retire to the library.
Nay lad!Needle and thread if stans doing it
Well if we are going to do watches and clocks, I'll have to get out the ones I took for insurance purposes, but there are couple of clocks over here I could put up. Later though, got to arrange voting int election fust!
Cheeky person that you are!Yeah, that technology stuff you hate is really awful isn't it Mr. Luddite?

The case opener that uses three tips comes with a box of replaceable tips cos not one type fits everything. (round box)
The blue thing is to help you hold a bracelet and push the pins out so you can shorten or lengthen one, the black thing is basically a movement or a case holder, the range of screwdrivers isn't very wide, as usual the case opening knife will be about as much use as a chocolate teapot, I usually end up using a craft knife, the double ended tool is for removing spring loaded pins that sit top and bottom on a watch, they can break at the tip quite easily(!). Etc etc. At least they seem to give you a few spring loaded bars. so yup, you could replace batts with it, and straps and adjust bracelet length.
Good luck with it!

OK, OK, I've just goggled it. Funny how so many of us use it when talking about our freinds from the US of A.Merkin is a pubic wig
Well today was different!
I have to draw up a contract for this loan of land for the neighbour with the hoss.
Part of it obvs is a description of the land and that was the problem. It is an odd shape basically triangular on tow sides but irregular down the other side. I started off by going out with my PHONE, yes you read that right, to see if I could use the compass app, to take bearings so I could make a map of it.
What a flipping waste of time that was, it was SO inaccurate and wouldn't even replicate itself.
I have the surveyor's plan of the house in the land and that, obvs, is accurate, but it doesn't show the boundary where we fenced it off.
It is covered in weeds my height and particularly brambles, so I was avoiding trying to measure it physically, especially as having no working compass I couldn't measure angles, except by flipping around with bits of wood and nails etc.
So I went back in the house after spending an hour and a half hacking through undergrowth etc to even be able to make contact with the blamed fence to take some measurements off it to relate to other stuff which sadly isn't on the plan either.
In the end I had a genius moment, I went to look on Google earth just to get an idea of the shape of the fence when, lo and behold I found you could click on points around an area and it would give you perimeter measurements and surface area.
WOWWWWWWWWW!!!
So it did the job for me! With a bit of fiddling around I was able to print pics off with the boundary etc marked on it.
So I now know that of our 6000 sq metres, we only use a fraction over half of it! Which was not a shock but deffo makes you think.
So then I spent the rest of the day drawing up the contract using a couple of sources to ensure I included everything it needed to make sure it is fair to both us and them and we can't get legally stuck in anyway. That was quite satisfying. Not often nowadays I have to type a lot of stuff in French!
So by the end of the day my back ached simply from sitting at a table drawing plans and typing on the lappy!
Still, job more or less done, just have to get blokey to OK it. He told me last week that I could do it all and he'd sign it, so he trusts me, or he is desperate.
Should meet his daughter the horse's owner this week as she is down staying with them. Did I mention she is a vet?
Anyway, onwards and upwards!
Here's a copy of what I mean.

Fun, ain't it!!
Sleep well folks!
All of them broke, none are telling the right time.Back to the watches, just found a pic

Left to right. Gold watch awarded to the manager of the Bolton-Paul factory in or just after the war, Famous aircraft factory, google the Bolton-Paul Defiant if you want a laugh! A watch made from the watch/clock attached to the instrument panel of a WW1 fighter aircraft like a Camel or an SE5, has no paint as the vibrations made it fall off! Done by cutting out layers of stuff. (Often pinched by ACs so the officer was made responsible for it and had to remove it every time he landed.)
Then a Art Deco French watch, bought in a Broquante, Then a WD issue watch noticeable that the crown is larger than usual to make it easier to wind or adjust with cold hands, then finally a gold dress watch given to me by W, once belonged to her ex. EXTREMELY thin, very good movment.
Just a little selection photographed for insurance purposes.
Oh and the tortoiseshell pocket knife which just feels so nice in the hand. Beautifully made, sharp as heck, bought in an auction or at a grandma's attic type sale, forget which.
Very cheeky, all of them work, but I don't keep them wound up all the time. All of them broke, none are telling the right time.

Seriously? You think I haven't thought of that? Its a good thing in the right hands .
That's a lot of land, have you restricted the amount of orses/animals? That could take 2-3 easy, then they would want a shelter.
Water?
Access ?
J
I know I won't be the only one who could help. Having been through it and known a few others who have, like W.Looks like I'm getting divorced, got letter though the post today, any advice ?
Well yes.Seriously? You think I haven't thought of that?
For a start this isn't the first time we have done it, previously a bloke used to put donkeys on there.
The new people, well, it'll be just one horse, the owner is blokey's daughter, a vet, who brought the horse into the world.
They will be providing food, if nec, water and a removable shelter, access is from the top corner of the field.
As he couldn't find anyone else willing to do it, I doubt he'll mess me around. Don't know how he could really, and he can be chucked off with a notice period according to the tems of the contract.
