Initial research indicates cartridges are available for about 150 sovs, but unknown brand (advertisers are cagey on this). A reconditioned turbo with a new cartridge is about 300 - 400 sovs, again unknown quality. Brand new Garret complete, as per original fitment, can be got for about a grand, usual well known suppliers. Same item from JLR - 2500 sovs . I want a NEW one. But not from JLR -----Can you not just "recore" or whatever the technical term is for replacing the centre turny bits of the turbo? seems others do it.
Unless it did shedloads of damage to the rest of it of course.
Lordy lordy. The price of that has got to be about the value of the Disco!Initial research indicates cartridges are available for about 150 sovs, but unknown brand (advertisers are cagey on this). They are model ones not realPainting pallets ?
Its not an item I want to scrimp and scrape on, too much effort if a second hand one fails or an unknown quality item is fitted and fails. And as I have to work on my driveway, I could end up having to repair in winter. Price of a new one includes the electronic stepper motor for the variable vane part. (no waste gate on these).Lordy lordy. The price of that has got to be about the value of the Disco!
I'd start a thread asking for advice on this.
My attitude would be to go for a cartridge but then I am nt lookimng at the internals of yours.
Or even a secondhand one.
Best of luck mate!
Gots a couple a Poles now at ours. Pleasant and good workers, put some of our slackers to shameTis wet here got 3 Ukrainians working with me today speaking broken English & google translator on the phone
which is interesting to say the least, great workers seam like really nice people.
TDI..Another day in, on, under, over the tratter engine bay. Took about 5 hours to coax a tiny 8mm bolt from behind the turbo oil drain pipe, 2 hours of which was taking the alternator off to get better access. And discovered a worn out idler pulley in the aux belt circuit in the process. Finally managed to get the pesky bolt out (I will invent a better one for re-fitting). And ----- ---- got the turbo off. Never played with a turbo before, but as there is play in the turbine shaft and the blades can touch the sides of the housing, I have declared it cattle trucked. Which would explain the screaming noise coming from the engine bay a couple of weeks ago, and the tratter kangarooing along the street last Sunday. (I had first thought the noise was a dead aircon pump, but it seems ok). So parts numbers and shopping list to prepare, and blow the cobwebs off me plastic squander card - its gonna suffer this weekend.

Don't know much about these motors but variable vane sound the cool way to go. some peeps put them into Discos 1 and 2.Its not an item I want to scrimp and scrape on, too much effort if a second hand one fails or an unknown quality item is fitted and fails. I know, I know. But I'd certainly have another Puma any day, only next time I'd get one without aircon.TDI..
This is the way..
Jus sayin
Was out for a drive with 'er indoors last weekend, we both agreed that a classic mini like the one we had in the 80's would make a great second car. Or an MG - midget or B. We both think the mini was the one car we should never have sold. Its probably the driver input that's needed in a defender that makes driving such fun and enjoyable, so like a car from back then.TDI..
