All land rovers are equal. Some rust faster than others.Shame on you hippo thay are all land rivers for the present short-term
So here's a thing.
Mad old me is wondering how difficult it would be to make a hole in the base of a new toilet cistern to accept the bottom fill paraphenalia.
I could practise on the old one.
What would you use?
I was thinking of starting with a tile drill
@brianp38dse have you ever needed to do anything like this?
@Ian M in France I know you do work for ex-pats over here, or I think you do, can you tell me if the mounting and flush holes in the base of a French cistern are a near enough match to fit onto a Brit made pan such as the ones we have from B&Q?
The plumbing needed to plumb one in would have to be very unsightly as we aren't about to spend €500 odd on a new bog. Grr
TIA all!

When in Rome comes to mind.maybe more expensive to start but maintaining would be cheaper and less aggroWould it not be easier/cheaper to just buy a whole bog and cistern of whats available? and a dam sight less hassle
You are only going to spend 6 days getting it right after breaking 1 probably.
Even if they are not 2 a penny there, use a side exit and run a flexi braided pipe up?

Hi Stand as far as I know the flush holes are the same size I can check size as have about 5 toilets to go in where I am working, problem is the holes that are used to fix cistern to the base/toilet are different between manufactures and different models, I have had to fit many new cisterns in holiday homes where water has been left over the winter and they have frozen normally I take the cistern off and take it into suppliers and see if I can find one that fits (I have to buy the complete toilet) but only have to fit cistern which saves changing the toiletSo here's a thing.

I wouldn't worry to much windblowdriver be like most things the government do when needed it won't workNever got me govt emergency warning test fing on me dog n bone. Looks like I'm toast in the event of a real emergency.
I barely use it.
That would be about an inch across then. I do have some diamond hole drills, is that what you mean by a core drill? They are what I use on tiles.Diamond core bit the same seize as the hole you want drilling slowly
It's the hole to take the water inlet, so 1" roughly in diameter.Yes, as they're quite a hard bake, diamond would be my first choice too.
You might need to enlarge the hole to fit a standard cistern onto the close-coupled base, in which case as there's nothing to guide the pilot bit, clamping it (gently) and using a pillar drill with the diamond core drill in it might work.
Ah, that's a bit more straightforward then. It's the hole to take the water inlet, so 1" roughly in diameter.

This is exactly my problem, I have made a drawing of the holes on the bottom to take with me when I go around places to look for a new one. Do you have any particular places you recommend I visit first?Hi Stand as far as I know the flush holes are the same size I can check size as have about 5 toilets to go in where I am working, problem is the holes that are used to fix cistern to the base/toilet are different between manufactures and different models, I have had to fit many new cisterns in holiday homes where water has been left over the winter and they have frozen normally I take the cistern off and take it into suppliers and see if I can find one that fits (I have to buy the complete toilet) but only have to fit cistern which saves changing the toilet
They were bought in 2008 odd! So I cannot help except by saying "one that fits this drawing" and then put up a tech drawing.Which bog does yer want from bnq?
