Well when you think that the very first Landies were designed for farmers with power take off to run circular saw etc, I think some of them even pulled ploughs!!

Yes, there were a lot of agricultural attachments offered in the early days. The Series chassis crossmembers even had holes conveniently positioned to accommodate an additional propshaft for other appliances. My favourite was a flat belt pulley that bolted to the rear crossmember, which was still a commonplace way of driving agricultural machinery in the middle years of the 20th century. Threshing machines, circular saws, turnip choppers, pumps, generators, the lot.

In a similar way, just after WW2 there were attempts to market the AEC Matador as an alternative to farm tractors.

It never really caught on in this country. On the Continent, Mercedes was much more successful at getting the Unimog accepted as an alternative to a tractor. I dunno whether this was to do with the availability of the base unit and its attachments, or the pricing compared to a tractor at the time, or the versatility of being able to use it as a pickup truck when it wasn't ploughing, or something else.

Nice little collection to look at and give you insperation for when you are up and running again:).

Must get a little cubby for all my screwdrivers instead of having them all over the place:oops:.

Maybe I will get tidy when I have time;). Might even get all the same colour:p.

We had a big tidy up today. The Mrs put the shelf up along with some other brackets for headphones etc on the other wall. It makes it easier for me to get around :D

I always opt for 2 doors. Reckon they have a stronger body shell than 4+ door models. And wider driver n passenger doors, easier for old gits to get in and out. I agree that 4+ doors are more practical but on the rare occasions I have any passengers I can put up with the minor inconvenience. Horses cars for courses :D

This is my 7000th post. I realise this is small potatoes compared to some of you who have tens of thousands, but it's quite a lot for me. Took me just over 10 years to do, so that's a little under two per day. Well, I don't log in here every day, so the average is not very meaningful, but there you go.
