Yes, there's one or two examples on here of people doing this to Land Rovers There was a bloke called @aaronmorris a few years ago who provided a lot of pictures too. Unfortunately, the Cummins engine he used was a little worn out, but all the mountings, pipework and transmission adaptations were very well detailed and neatly done.

Now that Cummins conversions are rather passe, I'm going to offer a kit that allows you to fit a vintage JCB 3cx engine and gearbox to Land Rovers. It'll be a winner. The front propshaft even comes out on the correct side of the gearbox. I'll cut out a load of bits of 3/8" plate and call them 'self assembly engine mounts' and throw in a nice brushed stainless steel finisher for where the exhaust comes up through the bonnet, and it'll be the ideal Christmas gift for the Land Rover lover in your life (JCB not included).
I had friend once who put a jcb engine in a classic rr. It had a ton of torque but it was very slow. I think its top speed was.about 40mph. He was a farmer though and they are renowned for making stuff work but not perfectly.

Wy not take your doozel vehicule there and fill a coupla jerrycans with peteroil for your V8 when you fill it up wiv doozil. Then you could enjoy it whenever?!;)

Ah, so someone's done it already. The engine in my digger is a four cylinder iron ingot of about 4 1/2 litres. I believe it was rated at about 70 h.p. in standard tune and there was a turbo version that was closer to 100. It's a very lazy engine and just chunders away at about 1500 rpm. Surprisingly economical too - a 20 litre jerry can of diesel will keep it going all day. So that means I can fill up my dumper truck for a little over £1 per time, even on current fuel prices.

Your mate wants to take the lead out of his boot!!!
(Mind you they is thirsty when cold.:(:()
You have to ask yourself the question "How many miles am I going to do in it?" and "Have I bought it for fun and is the price of the extra juice a price worth paying, for the fun?"
Our kit cars only do 30 mpg max, but we didn't buy them for for their fuel consumption!!;):D:D:D
