And further to that.... building regs say soakaways should be 5M from their own property ( they aren't) and at least 2.5M from any boundary (they aren't).

We have Dutch ovens for that. Indispensable kit. I have 4 of 'em, all cast iron, 2 being enameled. Gonna roast chicken in one tomaz. Stove top or over coals and open fire, they're awesome.For really cheap cooking people often use a Ramoska.
Comes from Eastern Europe where post-war power supply was scant. Works really well and is loved by Caravanners all over because it can roast a dinner on a camping pitches meagre power supply.
