It doesn't surprise me. The transmissions are encrypted and on very fast systems. CW is just for fun on ham bands these days!Do you know they dont teach morse code in the army/signals any more
It's all great until those fast/encrypted systems fail. Morse will still have a chance, even with lots of background noiseIt doesn't surprise me. The transmissions are encrypted and on very fast systems. CW is just for fun on ham bands these days!

I thort, and my knowledge of this is very patchy, that Morse was used when two hams couldn't get a clear voice signal but still wanted to chat?It doesn't surprise me. The transmissions are encrypted and on very fast systems. CW is just for fun on ham bands these days!
Indeed it was because of bandwidth issues as it takes up so little space. These days it is for SOTA comps and the older generation to show they still can!I thort, and my knowledge of this is very patchy, that Morse was used when two hams couldn't get a clear voice signal but still wanted to chat?
My knowledge dates back to the early 70s when mates of mine at school did it.
amazed no one has yet put up a link to Tony Hancock's "the Radio Ham" one of his best!!
You should eat all your greens, especially the spinach and the sprouts!!
Not just bandwidth, but interferenceIndeed it was because of bandwidth issues as it takes up so little space. These days it is for SOTA comps and the older generation to show they still can!
As Noddy said to Big Ears, "Let's put the roof on first, then we'll be able to keep dry while we are building the walls!"
(Things you remember from your dad reading to you in bed as a tiny kid!)
butt interference
I agree, you can usually hear it. As I have been home for the last three months I have been listening in on cw comps (sad I know). Not just bandwidth, but interference
