I was very happy once it was done. The rest of my car stuff today hain't gone so well.
Like the lighter idea! sort of tightass move I'd be proud to invent! But I'll remember it from now on.
Anyway, went to put the original (to me) head unit back in after I had replaced the cassette drive belt. Tested it before fitting it in the ole. All was fine until I tried a cassette.
Oh fuck, no luck!. Behaved EXACTLY as it did before.
And it started playing up in other ways, mostly refusing to show it had power to it.
So took it indoors and battled to remove the stuck in cassette. It didn't come out as easily this time as it did before. In fact it put up a real fight. I also noticed the ribbon cable which was such a sod to suss out wasn't connected. So I battled like feck,even got Wifey to help me by holding things steady and finally with a very much lot of swearing, to reconnect it.
So, feeling very positive I went back to the car to try it again!
SH!T. Still don't work, still spat out its dummy cassette-wise and now won't play anything at all.
I kept pressing the reset button but ,no. Resounding silence, which is actually worse than when it just wouldn't play cassettes.
So i put back in the one thta was in their at the beginning of the day.
Feeling very despondent.
and after having another long look at it have come to the conclusion it is actually an electro-mechanical problem. something to do with the plastic gear wheels. Which makes sense when I think about the noises it makes, when it's running.
Guess I'll have to look out for the exact model on Bgay/Gumtree etc so I can fit it and still use the disc player.
What a pain!

Wonderin if like me you make out that the boring jobs take far longer than they really do? (I try to "do" them when Wifey is out). She always seems pleased with ANY progress I make on them!

Just read the email from Britney Ferries telling us that our crossing has been cancelled as the fecking ship will be staying in dry dock for a week longer, right in the middle of which we were off and our visas start.
