Unlike in France, they cannot force there way into your home, only police with a warrant can do that, i believe.

Yep. They have no more 'power' than any other member of the public
I don't believe they have 'detectors' but even if they did, i would argue the use of any device would be snooping on the activity of an individual in a private residence. Voyeurism?
