Thanks DB ButI am ****ed already... won't be ready to drive before about 2 or 3 PM

Youll have to give it a rest if you want me to look at the disco. I am free on thurs morn for a look at it but start work at 3pm so dont leave it too late. Will be working on the spydermobile so just drop round :D

One other thing... not being used to landys I got a little concerned about the wobble one the front wheels. Tried to check the steering bushes earlier but apart from lifting one wheel off the floor and moving it from side to side didn't really know how to check it. Hints would be useful!

I will check all that if you get over here on Thursday .......................

Ryder,

Doing a timing chain isn't too terrible. You have to take the front of the engine off but it isn't too bad at all. The only thing is, it can be a bit time consuming.

Remember I said I thought the top end sounded a bit rattly, that could be worn cam followers or a worn camshaft. If you are thinking of changing followers and the timing chain I would seriously think about a camshaft. Not essential at this time but well worth thinking about. If there is any worry about the state of the timing chain I do know a way to check it.

You just remove the dizzy then borrow my specially made tool that you engage onto the cam gear. Turn each way and feel for the slack in the chain. Another way to see how bad it is is to try timing your engine. If the timing wanders a bit at idle chances are the chain is scrap.

Hope that helps and hasn't scared you!!

Blimey, you lot were busy last night.
This weather ain't helping things. Might have to invest in a pop-up gazebo.

Yeah, know what you mean!! I invested in a tarpaulin, attach it to me garage and drape it across the Rangie and not a problem. Certainly paid for itself on Saturday. Will take to to Salisbury too, that way if it is chucking it down we can make a dry area to stand under if we need to:rolleyes:

All this talk of maintance makes me think I should get someone to go over my 90 V8. As it sounds like I have a canary in the front.

Any recommendations of a good specialist on our patch?

I’ve just moved house so haven’t got the time / knowledge / talent.

Cheers

If it is making canary noises I would check the belts, take them off and give em a wipe with a moderately damp cloth, same with each pulley, WD40 the belt tensioners and check they spin easily and give the alternator a drowning with WD as well. Put belts back on (or fit new ones) tension up and hopefully all will be peace and quiet - allegedly:rolleyes:
