Ryder, I have a step by step guide to doing it on your mota if you'd like to borrow it? one of my mates found it on tinternet, be more than happy to give it ya wednesday!!

me n my motor managed to make it into our 3rd landy magazine!
Land Rover World in the 4x4 force bit, :)
before i added all the bits, about 4 days after i bought it lol,

lots to do tomorrow, fitting of new water pump, master cylinder, aux tensioner. thermostat, all filters and a oil change.
over at DB's for 10ish to see if we can get it all in in the few hours before he has to go to work!! :)

Most Cam Belts are recommended to be changed at about the 80-100K mark. I hope yours was done 80K ago and even if it was it's due another. I'd seriously look at the oil leak that you've got too. We've got a big trip coming up and breaking down in the middle of Salisbury Plain would not be funny.
I changed the belt on the new engine as a matter of course. 70K on the engine and unknown history. If I were you I'd have changed Belts, all of the oils- engine, gearbox, diffs, swivels, brake fluid, power steering, greased everything, new anti-freeze, had the wheels off and checked the brakes.
A little bit of time and money now could save you a fortune later. Especially with a motor that has no history.

That would be great... will let me make up my mind whethre to do it myself or pay someone else to do it!

Most of that is scheduled to be honest. We're gonna be doing all fluids... there is a small oil leak from the oil filter but that will be changed anyhow. Its the cam belt I'm losing sleep over!

All rover V8's are on duplex chains so you don't have a cambelt:D

And don't forget the swivel oils as if you have a CV go it can be a tad expensive and its a recovery truck ride home (been there and got the tshirt) :eek:

It is a chain on a v8 so unless it's rattling don't worry about it.

As for breaking down on the plains. If it does happen you aint gonna be up the creek without a paddle. There are lots of gravelly tracks networking over the plain. If the worst comes to the worst as long as your vehicle can still be towed and made to steer we can get you off.

It is more a case of join the muddy lanes that you wanna drive using the gravel ones in the gaps. The maximum distance that you will stray away from a gravel track realistically is about half a mile.
