Hertfordshire Lanes?????

1) Did you drive the lane in the same direction as in my picture, as in the stream in on your left? YES
2) Is he before or after the tree? BEFORE
3) If he's before the tree anyone looking to recover him would have to reverse over that tree, even I haven't tried that. I'm not sure that would even be possible as there's a big bit of tree root that you drop off of on the way down, maybe with waffle boards. Reversing down with the drop behind you is certainly a sphincter moment. IT NEEDS FRONT RECOVERY WE THINK... I WOULDNT WANT TO REVERSE EITHER WAY DOWN THE LANE
4) How many wheels and which ones are off of the track and over the edge? TWO / ONE ISH... ITS AGAINST A TREE
5) I'm thinking if it's just one or two N/S wheels, the answer would be to jack it up on a hi-lift and push it sideways off of the jack to hopefully get the wheels back on the track, might take a few goes, with waffles ideally to stop it slipping back. SOUNDS POSSIBLE
6) The field IIRC is much higher up than the lane with a really steep bank. I'm not sure that a recovery from the field would be possible, unless there's a perfect gap in the trees and the bank isn't too steep. THERE IS A GAP IN THE TREES RIGHT WHERE WE HAVE SLIPPED OFF I THINK THE SLOPE UP IS DO-ABLE
7) Do not go into the field without permission. WE BELIEVE FROM LOCALS - THE LAND OWNER LIVES AT THE END OF THE LANE - THEY WERE OUT WHEN WE WENT TO VISIT EARLIER

Spydie... is there no rear recovery possible if he hasnt gone over the tree yet?

Ryder... we can try rear recovery but the front end keeps getting caught behind the tree - waffle boards etc may help it from sliding down the bank

And the lane is slippy and it is a steep drop....

You'll see what we mean by the field being the best way out!

I'd try jacking it and pushing it over sideways off of the jack first. Try and secure the other end of the car sideways to a tree on the right, so if you're jacking the back say, the front end doesn't slip more.

Recovery up the banking into the field would involve turning the car through almost 90 degrees. What you don't want to happen is start pulling the front around and the back end disappears over the edge. Waffles would be useful, I have 2 as does Jai. It's going to need some serious pulling power to do what you're thinking about, being stuck against a tree limits what can be done too.

Getting another vehicle in a position to help, ideally with a winch and snatch block is going to be tricky, not for the recovery itself, but afterwards. Either the Disco would have to reverse out of the lane or the recovery one reverse over that tree.

earliest I could be of any help with my motor is Saturday, assuming I can get the clutch sorted first thing. I'd ideally want Jai his motor with a working winch with me.

I think this could break Ryder's record, maybe a few tools and dismantle it bit by bit, get it out one peice at a time.
 
Firstly i accept the **** taking - we should have stopped sooner or at least walked the lane first...

Secondly we shouldnt have really just gone in the one landy - I KNOW!!

Thirdly... i reckon the dismantling might just work.... however the bonnet is pointing at about a 45 degree angle to the field... more or less straight up in to it...

Those coming tomorrow can re-assess.... ive been stuck before but always got out... this is new having to leave her and go back with re-enforcements!!
 
i would't mind reversing around the tree it'll be a late one for sure'whenever it is! Need to hook up the winch don't know the lane which doesn't help but i'll do my best Jai p.s no waffle boards never used them in 3 years so swappded them for some other bits i needed
 
I've been looking at Spydies photo again. That hill is pretty steep to be pulling the motor up it... and as the front comes round (as said) the back will slip.

Ground anchor at the top of the hill, just to give support to the rear and backward 6 ft at a time..then move the anchor and start again... using the high lift is a good idea too. I take it someone IS taking a high lift?

I dont have a hi-lift...

and we are some way before the tree in the photo.... the hill up to the field is perhaps 2 foot high....
