Number#4. viscous fan is 32 mm.My first step before pulling injectors would be to remove the viscous fan and cowl, you do have to take off nearside RAD hose. Then you can access the crank bolt with ease to try turning the engine.
The injector with the needle lift sensor #5 would be hard to remove without the window socket because of the wires, damage it and you are looking at about £300 for a new one.
Thats so you can get the 2 heads off easy-er.......at least on my 4.0 ltr petrol i have an easily removable top section of the cowling the diesel does not .
had mine over 21 years, only engine work needed has been. water pump replacement, radiator, cps(crankshaft position sensor), breather pipes unblock and replacement.Thats so you can get the 2 heads off easy-er.....
Never seen, nor even heard of, a "window" socket Alan.From top to bottom,27mm window double deep socket,to allow the wire on number 4 to clear,17mm pipe spanner and 17mm open ended.

never seen a socket like that before. mind you i have never worked on a diesel before either.
my 1995 range rover is the newest car i have ever owned, all the rest did not have lamda sensors or much electronics.ot just for injectors, various sizes for.lambda sensors in fact anything that has wiring and needs tightened.

Don't know why you need the firing order,see post #82, remove fan cowl and injectors,turn engine over using the crank bolt and see which injector hole water comes out of.if you get water then it's time for head off because it's probably cracked,more common than head gasket.what is the firing order for the 2.5 diesel? is it 1,5,3,6,2,4,?knowing this could tell me which cylinder is having the problem.if i remove injector 1, put a long screwdriver into its hole. if it goes down a short distance and touches the piston it will be cylinder 6 thats the problem, if it goes half way down it will be 5 or 2, all the way down , it will be 3 or 4.
