help required for 2.5 diesel 1998 non starter

might be quite a while before we get around to doing that, brother is considering selling as spares or repair, since it cost him £1600 to get it through M.O.T. last year and hasnt used it since.
 
at least on my 4.0 ltr petrol i have an easily removable top section of the cowling the diesel does not .
Yes but once the fan is undone and the cowl unclipped they can be removed together. I'm trying to remember if I had to remove the water pipes. Don't whatever you do try to tow it and bump start because as water is not compressible you will bend the con rods as I'm sure you know.;)
 
it has 2 water pipes one near each end of the radiator pointing towards the engine. there is no room to get the cowling up in between them.
Well if the cooling water is in the engine pull the pipes off and lift the fan and cowl out together.not a lot to lose. But if at least one cylinder is full of water getting a socket on the crank bolt won't help.

we dont know. it is 1/4" below max, but he never looked at it when it came back from garage last year to see if it was full or not.
I guess that a 1/4" drop from max would be enough to cause the engine to hydraulic lock. I'm just a bit reluctant to believe that it's water in the cylinder, mine with a cracked head still turned over. Water sitting in the cylinder tends to creep past the rings and end up in the sump. Might be worth looking at the dipstick. As it's on a slope the level will not mean much but you may see evidence of water on the dipstick.
 
using tools i have never heard off
From top to bottom,27mm window double deep socket,to allow the wire on number 4 to clear,17mm pipe spanner and 17mm open ended.;)
