intermittent.
Will go quiet for a bit, comes back normally after a bump the road / cats eye.
No change / improvement when in neutral or when engine speed increased.

I take it when in nutrual you mean when you are coasting ?

Frist check your bearing as said 12 and 6 positions, but they normaly sound like grinding, or somthing stuck in the disc sort of noise.

UJ's normaly give a vibration if they are wearing, but worth a look if only to check them,

I did wonder of it was a CV joint but think they have a contesnt clicking type sound if they are on the way out,

Have you had a look at your shock absorber bushes at all. they can give a knocking sound after going over a small bump, and then on a smooth road stay quite, perhaps time to do that lift, lol

Well replacement engine is in place, all wiring re-attached bar one cable. Fitted new breather, broke my lift pump so had to put the old one back on.
Adjusted the tappits by eye for now and fitted my heavy duty clutch.
Still got to put the box on, re-seal the sump and change the time belt and a few seals but its getting there.

You about Thursday Brian? Not working till 7 so gonna get up there in the morning and carry on.

I'm about all day Thursday. Anita is at work so will have all day to play.

Hope to get the disco running Tuesday then change the front pads and discs, paint calipers, and change bushes on the Beemer on Wednesday.

Busy week ahead by the looks of it.

Check your prop Shaft UJ's while your at it.
I had the front prop shart UJ's done about 500 miles ago.

jacked it up and checked yet to see if its definitely bearings.

Just jacked it up and the OSF wheel seems to have some movement. So hopefully a bearing, I may have a go at doing it one morning over the BH weekend. It was noted that that the front pads were down to 4mm so I guess I should have a go at them whilst the wheel is off.
I'll pop down to Mansfields later and see how much they want for the parts.

No lift yet Stu :p
Maybe after the towbar, roof rack, bumper, winch?, chequer kit to hide my bubbles and bankruptcy.

when you wobbled the wheel, was it the hub that was moving or was the movement in the sweivel joint, more likely to be the hub that was moving and this should be quite evendent.

If you need a hand I may well be able to help you out sometime over the weekend, I ve got a hub spanner of you need it, maybe helping Matt with his bearings on Friday morn., or thursday if not working.

Yeah if you got the wheel off, and the discs are low then it may be worth it, but saying that they are eay to do, if your going to paly at the 4x4 show it may be worth leaving the pads as the old ones untill after - and be a cheapskate - wear the out fully, :D:D

I went down to Mansfield's for the parts and had another good listen on the way. I'm not entirely convinced its a bearing so I've left it there for them to take a quick look. I should find out tomorrow

Good point on the brake pads. Its very unlikely I'll be at the show, but I may as well use up the pads at Bures (8/5) as I will def be going.

Oh boy, oh boy...

Involved in a car crash last night. Side on with a 30 ton military flatbed vehicle. Spun right round in front of it, 360 degrees and landed in a lay by!!

I was passenger and practically had the front corner of the lorry on my lap

Luck was on our side that night - off duty police officer following us as well.

Sore back, neck, shoulders and arms; big time!! Little bit of a brown trouser moment to say the least

I reckon the car will be a right off, managed to get it limped home but it was driving like a jelly, reckon chassis is fooked!! All wheels wobbling all over the show
