You can get little clips that go around the ball joint to hold them together. It's not a permanent fix but will get you through the MOT. fritz

Disconnect the battery for a minute or two. When you reconnect the glass should drop. Also if you have the card off can you not undo the lower fixings of the regulator? That should you allow to gently tip the glass inwards to get the door open. Much easier to work on with the door open. fritz
