Wellcome to the landyzone, It would be helpful to tell us what type of Discovery early or late MK 1 and importantly what engine you have fitted, Do you have aircon? And what fans did you remove?

Running it a long time with head gasket blown is the cause, when she started to miss consistently was the time to remove the head, Agree another engine would work out cheaper in the long run, or you may be able to pick up a short block possibly, Good luck

I used mine as a breakdown recovery Vehicle with a small Harvey frost crane in the back, When I needed to jumpstart a larger diesel van/ truck it was useful to keep the revs up ( more power from the alternator) to start them, If memory serves me it needed some Rivnuts and bolts and the linkage...

The obvious question is where did pick up the feed for the lights ? And I assume you used Relays and fuses ?

I wouldn’t take the risk, replace it, also where has that bit disappeared too would be my concern,

+1 it was cheaper to buy than the disposable masks you can buy, only downside is you need a decent capacity Compressor to keep up, I personally wouldn’t spray without a proper mask, but your lungs your choice :eek:

Have you made sure that your crankcase vent system is clean and working correctly?

I used stainless as much as possible on my rebuild but be aware that stainless bolted to Aluminium without Dulac or fibre is the worst case for galvanic corrosion between the two components,
