Talking about the D3, was looking at getting one for sometime, but was put off by the horror stories of broken cranks, and the difficulty of some the service jobs on the TDV6, especially replacing timing belts. Just wondering if there are any such major issues with the petrol V8?

You don't need to pull out either glow plugs or injectors to remove the head. You only need to the fuel delivery lines to the injectors, remove the manifolds, the rocker assembly and drain the coolant via the drain plug on the side of the block so as to ensure that no coolant seeps into parts...

Before you pull the head off, have you as yet made the time to confirm if the cam sprocket is still in time with the camshaft? Remove the retaining bolt and check if the woodruff key is still in line with the keyways.

Speedo works from receiving a signal from the ABS, so that works, fuel gauge still worked, it was getting the temperature gauge and tacho to work that was the main issue. To get the temperature gauge working, I kept the wiring loom and ECU in place, put an adapter into the bung on the thermostat...
