! year ago in my 1992 defender 200tdi, the bushes in my camshaft spun and blocked off the oil way, leaving the bushes with a gap you could put the peak of your cap into resulting the oil light flickering at tick over. When the engine was stripped the camshaft rattled in the bearings it was that bad.
I pulled out the engine, stripped it fitted new camshaft bushes and gave a genaral overhaul as you do once it was out. Rebuilt the engine and refited it, I als fitted an oil pressure gauge to check oil pressure was back up.
However after 6 months the oil light again started to flicker andI was very concerned, showing down to less than 10psi when hot, but after talking to my son in law who queried the oil i was using. I was using fleet oil, semi synthetic which was cheap as the landrover defender is as I though to be able to run on any oil.
Wrong Defender lubricating oil is Mineral oil and after draining , changing the oil filter and refilling with mineral oil my oil pressure is 60psi at start up and 30 when hot evenb after 130 miles.
Hope this is of use as I very nearly pulled the engine out again, so its always good to ask mechanics familiar with the vechicles we are having problems with.
