    Series 3 Rebuilding a S3 with no I/D marks

Hi John Just looked at your other posts. Strange that they gave you a Q plate even though you found the chassis number! Was it a new chassis you used?

    Series 3 Rebuilding a S3 with no I/D marks

Yes thats what Im thinking! But according to their own website it should get an age related plate if it uses enough old parts! Maybe its just easier for them to issue a Q plate!

    Series 3 Rebuilding a S3 with no I/D marks

Its ok I know exactly what you mean! It would seem pretty strange to me that I could re-register a car just by filling in a few forms and possibly presenting and engine/gearbox number. But if you build a kit car thats pretty much what you do, plus an SVA etc. The guidance so far says, fill in...

    Series 3 Rebuilding a S3 with no I/D marks

As an aside, is it possible to obtain (from Land Rover I assume) any vehicle details if I just had and engine and /or gearbox number? Thanks

    Series 3 Rebuilding a S3 with no I/D marks

I think that may be the best plan! The must come up a fair bit with Landies!

    Series 3 Rebuilding a S3 with no I/D marks

Hi Ive trawled through the DVLA site, its a not very clear! If I rebuilt it with the original axles, gerabox, engine, chassis, body, I have to apply for a new registration, complete a "Build up report", then have it inspected by the "Owners club". If I do all of the above I "should" be able to...

    Series 3 Rebuilding a S3 with no I/D marks

Hi Ive been hankering to do a full rebuild on an S2/S3 for quite a while. Ive been offered one a very decent price, its an S3 SWB diesel with overdrive and freewheel hubs. It was used offroad for a while, cage fitted etc. Problem is she has no ID! No reg plates, no ID plates anywhere, front end...

    TD5 cracked head

Yes the AMC head is way better than the JLR one. The AMC head also has a slightly different torquing up sequence, six steps if I remember right. Oh and hopefully its not too late to say, keep your hydraulic lash adjusters (tappets) upright at all times! If the oil drains out of them, there is...

    TD5 cracked head

Hi Just the obvious stuff, gasket, head bolts etc, and an oil and filter change. I didnt change anything else when I replaced my head. Are you fitting a new (AMC) one or getting yours repaired? I do have thread about it on here, its sans pics at the moment until I reload everything after...

    TD5 Injector Testing

I used these guys when I did my rebuild. http://www.merlindiesel.com/ I think it was £40 each for a proper test with a detailed print out for each one. 4/5 passed, 1 was toast £130 exchange. Little tip, if during your rebuild you have had any head work done, make sure you remove and clean the...

Think my oil pump bolt may have gone...

    Very sick TD5

Hi. After mine had a run away (cracked head) No.1 piston had started to melt, the conrod was also very slightly bent. I didnt attempt to run it after the runaway, totally rebuilt it. My thread is on here, but looking a bit "naked" due to the photobucket issue. Mark

    TD5 injector seals not sealing

I did have some pics of my cracked head and its replacement, but Photobucket doesn't work anymore, so the pics are gone from the thread.! My crack was very difficult to see, it was on No1 injector pocket, almost impossible to see, it could be just about be felt with a finger nail. Ideally you...

Td5 Disco Auto, Diesel in sump?

Never, ever, ever believe anything any garage says! Start with that view. If they can prove you wrong by being:honest, professional, reasonable, then all the better.

    Renew all bolts on rebuild?

When I did mine, I renewed all bolts incl the sump bolts! Bit OTT but they (genuine ones) were cheap as chips. Make sure everything is spotless. All the pics from my rebuild thread have gone, thanks to Photobucket, but they did show the re-assembly. Follow RAVE for the procedure, incl adding a...

    TD5 Stripdown and rebuild

Hi Ray Im happy that my rebuild did over 25000 miles with no issues at all, actually the last 20000 miles cost me £200 (front wheel hubs, water pump) I got £2700 for it, so fairly happy. Chap flew down from Glasgow, paid in advance and drove her home that evening! Honestly, Im not missing her...

    TD5 Crankshaft Damper pulley

Wouldn't want to risk a solid "damper", cos its not a damper anymore! Got mine from Turners couple of years ago. https://www.turnerengineering.co.uk/lhg100580-damper-crankshaft-c2x20634759

    TD5 Stripdown and rebuild

Hi Ray, sorry for late reply, car sold now but I dip into the forum occasionally! I just used a piece of foam with holes in to keep the adjusters upright. Worked fine first time, when I did the head again later I didn't keep them upright hence the occasional tapping! Mark

Disco 2 What are they worth now?

LOL Yes its potentially a bit rusty!! I think the price for mine was as good as I could have expected! People are very fixated on low mileage, for me its almost irrelevant, its condition that important! Luckily my buyer thought the same way!

Disco 2 What are they worth now?

My 04 D2 Commercial (Van) no ACE, no AC, no sunroofs, no back seats! With 210,000 miles on it. Went for £2700 with 12 months MOT and no advisories. Condition is the key to getting a good price. BTW The value of classics is very variable, Im looking at getting a Winter project, 1966 MGB GT, wire...
