Hi all
After having a runaway engine due to a badly fitting injector o-ring filling up the sump, the engine is now pretty sick. The diesel contaminated oil has been replaced and the injectors are fitted with genuine seals and o-rings.
The engine eventually got going with a good bump start (just purging it wasn't working) and would idle OK, but application of throttle whilst being towed was making the engine bog down and knock to the point of dying. it wouldn't like any throttle application whilst the vehicle was stationary.

Any suggestions before I take the head off? Would diagnostics be able to shed light on any potential problems?

i had this once from a different type of engine from a jackaroo 4 cylinder diesel it started and idled but then quickly diesel knocked and conked out firstly went for air intake then fuel

turned out to be a clogged exhaust flow .....while knocking the CAT out was like wet paper machea just like the old banana trick up the tail pipe ie to much back pressure

try disconnecting the exhaust from the turbo and test drive if this has been leaking fuel into the sump no doubt the exhaust is full due to valves being open and cat has collapsed

i dont like the idea of bump starting you only use this knowing you have a flat batt and full confidence in the engine knowing that you dont have leaking injectors craked heads or other possibilities to to create hydraulic lock up hopefully you haven't caused any long term damage

The exhaust is free flowing - straight through pipe and no cat helps that so I can rule that out.
I do get some white smoke out the exhaust when cranking it and it's on the verge of firing but just won't go...

I'd take the engine out and strip the bottom end at the very least. When it overruns, it runs on oil from the engine and eventually drains it, and as such a lot of stuff that usually gets lubricated just doesn't .. there could be damage to all sorts, big ends, little ends, cams etc etc.

Hi. After mine had a run away (cracked head) No.1 piston had started to melt, the conrod was also very slightly bent.
I didnt attempt to run it after the runaway, totally rebuilt it.
My thread is on here, but looking a bit "naked" due to the photobucket issue.
